    摘要: A system for automatically controlling a lathe, particularly a turret lathe, by fluid pressure such as air pressure. All movable parts such, for example, as the crossfeed table and the turret ram table of the lathe, are actuated by an air-operated piston. Sensors such as air-operated poppet valves are provided for sensing when the movable part has reached either one of its extreme or end positions. A liquid-operated damper is disposed in the path of the movable part for slowing down its movement between a predetermined point and its end position. This permits to move the table at high speed until the tool engages the work, whereupon the speed can be controllably reduced. This may be effected by controlling an adjustable opening of a valve in the path of the liquid of the damper.

A port-type valve system is included in the stem portion and includes a pair of threaded portions connecting axially arranged members, the members having transverse or radial bores therein and having annular chambers communicating with selected bores whereby rotation of said members relative to each other will move one axially with respect to the other and place portions of said transverse bores in communication with said chambers whereby smoke passing through the device may be mixed with air in a ratio between zero and a maximum. The bores etc., are sized so that the effective draw may not be altered upon a change in said ratio. The valve system is connected with ducts leading thereto from the tobacco holding portion and from the mouthpiece end of the device.

    摘要: A lightweight, compact soldering and desoldering instrument including a temperature sensor at the soldering tip. The sensor is of a type to provide a large change of resistance with a small change of temperature thereby to unbalance an electric bridge to create an error signal which in turn turns on or off the heating element of the soldering instrument. The entire electric control circuit is carried on a printed circuit board slidably disposed in the handle of the instrument and provides a closed loop temperature control. A closed tool holder is provided for maintaining the soldering instrument at its operating temperature when it is not in use thereby to extend the life of the soldering tip and to minimize the heating current. The control circuit is also provided with a special fuse which responds both to a thermal overload and an electrical overload to disconnect the current supply. The temperature of the soldering tip may be set by a control potentiometer in the handle of the instrument in accordance with different requirements.

    摘要: A portable, hand operated vacuum stroke implement is disclosed which includes a hollow cylindrical pump body and a low inertia, spring loaded, trigger actuated piston assembly contained therewithin. A cocking plunger is carried by a journal fixture disposed at the rear of the pump body. The plunger may be axially forced into the pump body to urge the piston assembly to a forward, ''''loaded'''' disposition where it is retained by a trigger mechanism. Once the tool is thusly cocked, the plunger is returned by a separate return spring to its axially extended configuration whereby when the trigger is actuated and the piston flies back, there is no external manifestation thereof, thusly eliminating any danger to the user and minimizing the recoil during the flyback, vacuum stroke. The trigger mechanism also is of the character to retain, when desired for storage or shipping, the cocking plunger within the pump body. A nozzle element is frictionally fitted to the forward end of the pump body and may be removed, for cleaning or replacement, by inserting further, in cooperation with the trigger mechanism the cocking plunger into the pump body.     摘要: A raw material feeder for automatically feeding flexible stock, such, for example, as tubes or small-diameter rods of metal, plastic, or fiber into an automatically-controlled machine tool such, for example, as an automatic lathe. The feeder consists of an indexing drum having a plurality of peripherally-disposed, hollow tubes, each for housing one piece of the raw stock. By means of pneumatic pressure, each unit of stock is periodically advanced into the automatic lathe for performing drilling, milling, grinding, and the like operations. When the work piece is finished, another portion of the stock is automatically advanced into the lathe. Indexing is effected also by penumatic pressure. The drum of the feeder additionally serves as an air container serving as a moisture trap. The capacity of the feeder may be as large as 2,000 feet of quarter-inch stock while having a length of 12 feet. Another embodiment of the feeder has means for rotating a special hollow feeder tube containing a piece of raw stock to be machined and disposed adjacent the lathe. This will speed up the operation of the lathe. An air sensor mechanism is also provided which makes it possible to sense when the last portion of the raw stock has been used up adjacent the machine tool''s collet. Alternatively, each of the hollow tubes of the indexing drum may be rotated by a suitable mechanism to reduce the space required for the feeder system.

    摘要: A hand held, hand operated tool is disclosed which has an outer cylindrical body and an inner, spring loaded plunger-piston assembly. The piston may be cocked and then held by a trigger mechanism in a forward position next to a nozzle or tip member. When the trigger is released, the piston flies back rearwardly drawing a sharp impulse of air into the cylindrical body through the nozzle member. A cocking shaft affixed to the plunger extends rearwardly out of the body and may be pushed forwardly into the body for each desired cocking stroke. A sheath for the cocking shaft is also carried by the body and is movable axially thereon. The rearward end of the sheath is closed and is engaged by the hand of the operator to push the cocking shaft into the cylindrical body of the implement. The cocking sheath is then returned by a second, light spring to its fully extended position, while the cocking shaft is held forwardly by the trigger mechanism. The cocking sheath provides both a handle and a protection covering for the cocking shaft. The tip element is frictionally held within the forward end of the cylindrical body and is cleaned with each cocking stroke by the passage therethrough of a cleaning shaft affixed to and extending forwardly from the piston. When the cocking shaft is urged extraordinarily forwardly, the tip is particularly thoroughly cleaned and by further pushing of the cocking plunger, the tip member is ejected as for inspection, cleaning, or replacement.     摘要: A system for automatically treating elongated stock, such for example as tubes, rods, or bars. The stock is cut into predetermined length and then must be deburred, chamfered, drilled or counter-bored, as the case may be. The stock is held in a vise mounted on a vise platform and capable of reciprocating in one direction. The vise platform is slidably mounted on a main platform capable of reciprocating at right angles to the vise platform. The vise is opened to receive a piece of stock, and the stock is then moved into alignment with two opposed tools. The stock is then moved first against one rotating tool and then against the other for deburring it or else against a non-rotating tool for applying a cap or the like thereto. The finished tool is then moved to another station where it is ejected by an air nozzle. The platform may be rapidly moved by an air system. The movement may be slowed or retarded by an oil damping system including an adjustable metering valve. Bumpers may be provided for slowly moving each end of the stock against the appropriate rotating tool and again the movement may be controlled by adjustable valves. The stock is metered one by one into the vise by a fixed stock guide and a reciprocating stock releasing or metering device which is controlled by engagement with the moving platform for receiving the next piece of stock.
