Abstract:
A modular plastic floor tile has a body of a first polymer compound and at least one upper feature overmolded onto an upper surface of the body from a second polymer compound which is injected from a gate adjacent the lower surface of the body. At least one through-hole communicates the gate to the upper feature. At least one vent hole, spaced from the through-hole, communicates the upper feature to the lower surface of the body. The vent hole allows any gas in the polymer flow path to be displaced from the upper feature, thereby preventing or minimizing defects that can affect adhesion and appearance.
Abstract:
A modular plastic floor tile has a body of a first polymer compound and features overmolded onto the body from a second polymer compound. The compounds may be different from each other in hardness and/or color. The features may include skins on support member cores disposed below the tile lower surface. The skins adhere to the bottom and at least a portion of the sidewall of the support member core.
Abstract:
A plastic floor tile is formed by molding a body of a first polymer compound and overmolding features onto the body from a second polymer compound. The compounds may be different from each other in hardness and/or color. The overmolded features may include raised pads on the upper surface of the tile. The pads on the upper surface may be injection-molded from the lower surface through through-holes, which are smaller in area than the area of the pads.
Abstract:
A hanger for suspending multiple articles, such as automotive floor mats, is injection-molded in one piece from a suitable polymer. The hanger has at least four stationary article gripping members and four mobile article gripping members which are fastenable to respective ones of the stationary gripping members. Article-supporting fingers of the stationary gripping members extend horizontally away from the hanger body, two in one direction and two in another. The stationary gripping members are arranged in pairs, with one member in a pair extending in one direction, and the other member of the pair extending in an opposite direction. In one embodiment, a shared structural plate makes up a portion of the “C” channel for each gripping member in the pair.
Abstract:
Principal components of injection molding apparatus include a U-frame, a carrier plate remotely affixable to the U-frame, preferably two cavity blocks remotely affixable to the carrier plate, a corresponding pair of core blocks, and a hot runner assembly remotely affixable to rear faces of the core blocks. These components are placed in a hydraulic press. In a molding operation, the U-frame, carrier plate and cavity blocks move as a unit relative to the hot runner assembly and the core blocks affixed thereto. To quickly change out one or both block pairs, a subassembly comprising the carrier plate and all core and cavity blocks is remotely released from the U-frame and the hot runner assembly and is removed as a unit. Face clamps in the front face of the carrier plate, the rear face of the cavity blocks, the rear face of the core blocks and the front face of the cavity blocks speed the changeout process and obviate potential damage to the molding geometry. A hot runner nozzle cap seat in each core block has a rear-facing bevel which receives a beveled hot runner nozzle cap tip.
Abstract:
A hanger is injection-molded in one piece from a suitable polymer. At each of a plurality of gripping locations, a stationary gripping member and a mobile gripping member are provided, each of which preferably terminate in inwardly directed article supporting fingers. For each pair of gripping members, a fastening arm is provided on one of the members while a channel is provided in the other of the gripping members. A pawl engages with an array of teeth to fasten the gripping members together and to secure e.g. a pair of vehicle floor mats therebetween.

Abstract:
In a grommet for a vehicle floor cover, receptacles formed in a generally cylindrical inner surface of a female tubular body making up part of one grommet portion receive protrusions formed on a generally cylindrical outer surface of a male tubular body making up part of a second grommet portion. The bottom grommet portion may have chamfered gussets formed adjacent a bottom retention flange in order to accommodate vehicle floor mats or trays of different thicknesses. Stud holes created in respective ones of the grommets receive studs of intentionally different shape or orientation, thereby militating against installation of the floor cover upside down.
