Abstract: Apparatus and associated methods relate to an enhanced auxetic composite material (EACM) of a base thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) and/or a thermoset material combined with an auxetic material, the composite formed with a molding process, where the base material is injected or dripped into or injected, dripped or formed around the auxetic material, the composite material providing higher impact performance than the individual materials. In an illustrative example, combining various energy absorbing materials with auxetic materials may further enhance impact performance. In some examples, TPE material injected into auxetic structures may fill internal voids. In some examples, the auxetic material may be suspended within the TPE material and be encapsulated around the auxetic material form. Auxetic materials may take various forms, for example, sheets, 3-D structures, and particles, each providing unique benefits. Various embodiments included within various personal protection articles may advantageously provide long life and enhance impact resistance.

Abstract: A skate (e.g., an ice skate) for a skater (e.g., a hockey player). The skate comprises a skate boot for receiving a foot of the skater and a skating device (e.g., a blade and a blade holder) disposed beneath the skate boot to engage a skating surface (e.g., ice). At least part of the skate boot and optionally at least part of one or more other components (e.g., the skating device) may be constructed from one or more materials (e.g., foams) molded by flowing in molding equipment during a molding process (e.g., injection molding or casting). This may allow the skate (or other footwear) to have useful performance characteristics (e.g., reduced weight, proper fit and comfort, etc.) while being more cost-effectively manufactured. Other articles of footwear are also provided.

Abstract: A passive horn integrally formed by using liquid silicone rubber, includes a first outer casing, a second outer casing, an inner casing and an iron piece. The first outer casing includes a sealing ring, a folding ring and a vibrating membrane, and the sealing ring, the folding ring and the vibrating membrane are integrally injection molded into the first outer casing. A groove is disposed in the second outer casing, and the first outer casing is disposed in the groove. The back surface of the vibrating membrane is provided with a casing groove, which is sequentially embedded with the inner casing and the iron piece. A preparation method of a passive horn integrally formed by using liquid silicone rubber, under the condition of integrated injection molding, may improve the yield rate, ensure product quality, save assembly time and labor cost, and improve production efficiency.

Abstract: A protective case for a mobile device having a multi-layered construction is disclosed. The multi-layered construction includes two layers co-molded to one another and produces a lightweight and low-profile case providing a high level of impact protection. The first layer generally forms the internal rigid shell of the case, and the second layer forms the external soft shell of the case which may include a perforated pattern of holes. The first layer is comprised of material that has a hardness greater than the second layer. The layers are configured to interact with one another so that they are capable of distributing and absorbing impact forces to mitigate damage to the mobile device. The first layer includes apertures in which the second layer forms buttons corresponding to mobile device user controls. The second layer also bonds through attachment openings at the corners of the first layer.

Abstract: A tape dispenser includes a plastic injection molded frame with a resiliently flexible finger that helps prevent the free end of a roll of tape from accidentally retracting, falling back, and frustratingly sticking to the coiled portion of the tape. To avoid this problem, a distal end of the finger presses against the inner diameter of a cardboard or plastic spool about which the tape is wrapped. Friction between the finger's distal end and the spool's inner diameter inhibits reverse rotation of the spool. To avoid breaking the finger while forcefully loading the roll of tape into the dispenser during assembly, a lateral backstop surface on the dispenser prevents the spool from bending the finger too far in a laterally outward direction. To avoid breaking the finger during subsequent rough use, another backstop surface prevents the spool from bending the finger too far in a radially downward direction.

Abstract: A housing for an electronic device includes a single rear housing assembly coupled to the cover glass of a display assembly. The rear housing assembly includes a metal rear chassis with two layers of injection molded material formed on at least the chassis side regions. The first injection molded layer includes a high reinforcing agent content percentage to provide increased stiffness, and the second injection molded layer includes a low reinforcing agent content percentage, which provides less structural support than the first injection molded layer, but an improved aesthetic appearance.
