Abstract:
The invention provides an apparatus and method for grinding and separating pre-softened refuse tire portions. The pre-softened portions are compaction ground with tapered auger positioned in a housing. The ground material which is discharged from the housing is thereafter magnetically separated into a metal refuse fraction and a rubber crumb product fraction. Optionally a second stage apparatus is provided. The second stage apparatus differs from the apparatus substantially only in respect to further comprising a second housing for enclosing said second auger which has rifling on the inner surface thereof and which runs counter to the flights of said second auger; and means for rotating said second housing counter to said second auger. Crumb rubber product from the apparatus is fed into the inlet of the second stage. A 200 mesh crumb rubber is thereafter recovered from the outlet of the second stage.
Abstract:
The invention provides an apparatus and method of its use, for recovering either devulcanized rubber or purified carbon and volatiles from a crumb rubber feed material. The apparatus comprises a chamber; a vacuum pump for providing reduced pressure within the chamber; an inlet for feeding crumb rubber into the chamber; an auger for providing continuous movement of the crumb rubber though the chamber; a battery of microtrons for providing substantially precise energy input into the crumb rubber as it is continuously moved through the chamber by the auger; at least one condenser for recovering volatiles from the crumb rubber after it has been sufficiently heated by said the microtrons; and an outlet for withdrawing either a devulcanized rubber or a purified carbon product residue from the chamber.
Abstract:
An absorbent surgical pad, useful after delivery, hysterectomy, or hemorrhoidectomy procedures and having a uniquely-shaped adhesive configuration, is described. There further is described a novel pad pack of such configuration that the adhesive can be removed with minimal danger of inadvertent contamination of the absorbent pad.
Abstract:
A non-foaming periodontic composition for treating gum diseases or used in bleaching teeth which are alcohol free. The composition is a mixture of an isoalkyl amine oxide and an antimicrobial betaine compound. The composition is useful for treating gum disease and whitening teeth.
Abstract:
The invention provides an apparatus for removing at least one bead from a tire. The apparatus includes a conveyor for tires and a sensor which centers the tire about a debeading device and a cutting device. The conveyor then moves the cut tire to a second position wherein the bead is pulled from the tire. A microprocessor is used to position the tires and for resetting the devices for treating additional tires.
Abstract:
There is provided a process for reclaiming elastomeric waste material, particularly rubber, which includes the steps impregnating the elastomeric waste material with an essential oil and then heat treating the impregnated material under reduced pressure with microwave radiation.
Abstract:
A method is provided for in situ decontamination of contaminated subsurface area by injection of steam into injection wells and withdrawing liquids and vapors from extraction wells under subatmospheric pressure whereby steam is passed through the contaminated area in an essentially horizontal direction. After a substantial portion of the contamination has been removed in this manner, the injection of steam is ceased, but the extraction at subatmospheric pressure is continued, to volatilize and remove the residual water and contaminants trapped in the pores of the soil. The steam injection may be periodically resumed to reheat the area and to replenish the water in the pores.
Abstract:
In a rinser/dryer for carriers of semiconductor wafers, a rotatable frame containing the carrier is directly mounted to, and cantilevered from the drive motor. A container encloses the rotatable frame and carrier. A gas pressurized labyrinth seal separates the inside of the container from the drive motor to prevent contamination. A raised portion in the labyrinth seal, with gas inlets on each side of the raised portion, forms a pressure barrier inhibiting the passage of moisture and contaminates across the barrier.
