Abstract:
An electromagnetic engine has inner and outer rotors having magnets of opposite polarity mounted thereon. Output is taken from the inner rotor, which is free to unidirectionally rotate. The outer rotor is caused to oscillate, the force of magnetic repulsion between the magnetic fields of the inner and outer rotors driving rotation of the inner rotor. The outer rotor may be held stationary by solenoids and holding gears when the inner and outer magnetic fields are closely adjacent in order to maximize the force of repulsion. The timing of the oscillation and pausing of the outer rotor may be controlled by EPROM circuitry and a timing sensor mounted on the output shaft or gear. Alternatively output is taken from the outer rotor, which is free to unidirectionally rotate while inner rotor is caused to oscillate, the magnetic forces between the inner and outer rotors driving rotation of the outer rotor.
Abstract:
A portable cooling assembly for enhancing the cooling ability of an electric fan includes a tube that is coiled into a spiral and the tube contains a refrigerant. A pair of arms is each coupled to and extends away from the tube. Each of the arms is concavely arcuate to engage opposite sides of the fan for retaining the tube on the fan. In this way the refrigerant in the tube can cool air being blown thereacross by the fan for enhancing comfort for a user in a hot environment.
Abstract:
The problem of providing a submerged vehicle with above-the-surface communications to a nearby vessel, shore platform, or satellite while traveling at operating speed is solved by an efficiently deployable tethered tow body having a hydrodynamic and buoyant hull body and incorporating a lift-generating wing that provides hydrodynamic lift to efficiently lift the tow body containing antennas and other communications devices to the surface. The tow body allows for stable operation during underwater tow, surface tow, and transitions between underwater tow and surface tow. Disclosed embodiments include communications apparatuses encompassing the principles of the tethered tow body, as well as various underwater systems that incorporate a tethered tow body or communications apparatus for establishing communications with a nearby vessel, shore platform, or satellite.

Abstract:
A personal cooling apparatus includes a ventilation unit connected to an air distribution garment, and is operable to generate a flow of air from the ambient to the air distribution garment. The air distribution garment includes first and second spaced layers of a flexible, but strong material that contours to a person's body when worn, while defining a plenum for the air to flow throughout the air distribution garment. A flexible cuff at a bottom seam of the air distribution garment prevents air within the plenum from escaping from the bottom, thereby forcing the air upward and laterally within the plenum. An air dam is centrally positioned within the air distribution garment for directing the airflow from the ventilation unit in at least two different directions to facilitate propagation of the air throughout the air distribution garment. Air holes are oriented along the outer seam or edge of the air distribution garment to allow air from the plenum to escape and carry heat away from the body. The placement of the air holes is optimized to increase air propagation uniformity throughout the air distribution garment.
Abstract:
A system and method for correlating end user error reports with software developer defect logs to thereby update the end user error reports with information from the developer defect logs. With the system and method, when support personnel open an end user error report to address the problem encountered by the user, the mechanisms of the system and method search a defect report database to determine if there is any defect report related to the same error that is the subject of the opened end user error report. If so, the end user error report is updated to include information from the defect report. This information may include, for example, the identity of the source of the problem generating the error, the identity of the fix or patch that solves the problem generating the error encountered by the end user, if any, and the like.
Abstract:
An electromagnetic engine has an inner rotor and an outer rotor having magnets of opposite polarity mounted thereon. Output is taken from the inner rotor, which is free to rotate in a single direction.
Abstract:
The problem of penetrating through nets and other objects is solved by cutting the object using a linear cutting assembly having a linear cutter arm that moves in an arc and pivots about an attachment point. The object is cut by a severing action caused by a moveable blade of the linear cutting arm moving back and forth across a stationary blade of the linear cutter arm. An underwater vehicle modified to incorporate an embodiment of the linear cutting assembly can cut a sufficiently large opening in the object to allow the vehicle to pass through.
Abstract:
The problem of penetrating through nets and other objects is solved by cutting the object using concentric cutters in which a rotatable cutter having floating teeth rotates concentrically about a stationary cutter having fixed teeth. The object is cut by a severing action caused by the floating teeth of the rotatable cutter sliding against the fixed teeth of the stationary cutter. Embodiments of the invention include a UUV system for penetrating through fishing nets and other objects, concentric cutting assemblies for use in the UUV system and other systems, and a method for penetrating through fishing nets and other objects. A UUV system in accordance with an embodiment of the invention has a concentric cutting assembly at the forward end and a propulsor at the aft end. The concentric cutting assembly integrates seamlessly within the UUV housing and is deployed from the forward end of the UUV, enabling the UUV to quickly and efficiently penetrate through objects blocking its path.
