Abstract:
This invention relates to oral care compositions comprising an effective amount of a basic amino acid in free or salt form, together with an antibacterial agent, and to methods of using and of making such compositions.
Abstract:
Oral compositions comprising a first and a second abrasive are provided. The first abrasive preferably has an Einlehner hardness of greater than about 5 mg loss per 100,000 revolutions, and the second abrasive preferably has an Einlehner hardness of less than about 5 mg loss per 100,000 revolutions. A ratio of the first abrasive to the second abrasive ranges from about 1:1.6 to about 1.6:1, and the first and second abrasives are preferably present in the oral composition at an amount of about 13% to about 21% by weight, respectively. The pellicle cleaning ratio of the oral composition is greater than 100 and the radioactive dentin abrasiveness is preferably less than 200, and in certain embodiments, preferably less than about 175. Methods of using the oral compositions are also provided.
Abstract:
A toothbrush uses light to deliver an oral care benefit such as the detection of plaque or the whitening of teeth. In one embodiment, a toothpaste formulation contains ultraviolet brighteners as a whitening ingredient that has a whitening or bleaching effect when in contact with ultraviolet radiation. The activation of the brighteners may occur through the use of a toothbrush having a UV source. In yet another embodiment, a toothpaste formulation contains an oxidizing agent as a whitening ingredient, the activation of which occurs through the use of a toothbrush having a source of light energy which includes LEDs in the bristle field.
Abstract:
A tooth whitening composition for imparting a natural white appearance to dental enamel, comprising: a whitening particulate comprising hydroxyapatite and a delivery system comprising a silicone resin and a silicone adhesive. Methods of imparting whiteness to a tooth in a mammal are also provided.
Abstract:
An oral care composition having a first phase of clinically efficacious 2,4,4′-trichloro 2′-hydroxydiphenyl ether admixed in a first orally acceptable aqueous vehicle, and a second phase having a stannous salt (such as stannous fluoride) admixed in a second orally acceptable aqueous vehicle. The second phase has no less than 10 molar percent of soluble stannous ion respective to a mathematical sum of moles of the soluble stannous ion and moles of the stannous salt in the second phase. In one embodiment, the two phases are provided in a dual-tube toothpaste oral care kit.
Abstract:
Oral care compositions comprising: a) an oral care active; and b) an acrylic film forming polymer. In various embodiments, such polymers comprise monomeric units such as acrylic acid, methacrylic acid, acrylates, and combinations thereof. In one embodiment, the film forming polymer comprises a copolymer of a first monomeric unit selected from the group consisting of acrylic acid, methacrylic acid, and combinations thereof, with a second monomeric unit selected from the group consisting of acrylates, acrylamindes, acetates, and combinations thereof. In various embodiments, the polymer is a terpolymer comprising a combination of the second monomeric units. Preferably, the composition additionally comprises a lower alcohol, such as ethanol. In various embodiments, the oral care active comprises a whitening material, such as a peroxide.
Abstract:
A dye is incorporated in a carrier. The dye has the characteristics of attaching itself to residual plaque on the tooth surface. The dye also has the characteristic of being activated by the presence of ultraviolet radiation to visually create a fluorescent effect that would indicate the presence of plaque remaining on the teeth. The carrier can be toothpaste or any other form of tooth applicator, such as a rinse or gum. The UV light source could be from a separate device or could be mounted in the toothbrush itself.
Abstract:
A tooth whitening system comprising a tooth whitening composition comprising a whitening agent and a hydrophobic polymer carrier. The tooth whitening composition is preferably substantially non-water soluble. The tooth whitening composition is applied to the surface of a tooth to be whitened in a mammal to effect whitening on the tooth surface. Methods of whitening a surface of a tooth are also provided.
Abstract:
An abrasive dentifrice composition which effects enhanced tooth and stain removal which comprises an orally acceptable vehicle containing a combination of a low oil absorption silica abrasive having an oil absorption value of less than 100 cc/100 g silica and an proteolytic enzyme.
