Abstract:
The present invention relates to a novel set of four fluorescently labeled dye terminators. Two of them are single dye labeled terminators and the other two dye terminators are based on fluorescent resonance energy transfer (FRET). The FRET dye terminators are generated from the 4′,5′-bis-aminomethylfluorescein. Of the two amino groups of the donor dye, 4′,5′-bis-aminomethylfluorescein, one amino group is used to attach the acceptor dye, and the other amino group is used to attach the dideoxynucleoside-5′-triphosphate. Their preparation, energy transfer efficiency, and use as labels, specifically, in DNA sequencing reactions is disclosed.
Abstract:
An antenna comprising a reflector having a reflector surface profile for reflecting a plurality of signals comprising a plurality of communication bands; a multi-depth corrugated horn assembly for receiving the signal comprising the plurality of communication bands; a stepped waveguide coupled to the corrugated horn; a first polarizer coupled to the stepped waveguide for separating a first communication band from the plurality of communication bands; a second polarizer coupled to the stepped waveguide for separating a second communication band from the plurality of communication bands; and a third polarizer coupled to the stepped waveguide for separating a third communication band from the plurality of communication bands. The antenna can simultaneously operate in the K, Ka and EHF frequency bands. Extension of this antenna to include five separate frequency bands is demonstrated.
Abstract:
The present invention provides nucleosides of formula (1) and oligonucleotides comprising at least one nucleoside of formula (2): Another aspect of the invention relates to a method of inhibiting the expression of a gene in cell, the method comprising (a) contacting an oligonucleotide of the invention with the cell; and (b) maintaining the cell from step (a) for a time sufficient to obtain degradation of the mRNA of the target gene.
Abstract:
Antenna system and methodology for producing multiple interleaved beams using a hybrid frequency-reuse scheme. In particular, depending on the traffic demand in specific coverage areas, some beams are assigned with frequency channels in accordance with a 4-cell frequency-reuse scheme, and the other beams are assigned with frequency channels in accordance with a 7-cell frequency-reuse scheme. The antenna system has multiple feeds divided into clusters, and a number of reflectors fed by respective feed clusters and configured to form one beam for each of the feeds.
Abstract:
An antenna system for generating and configuring at least one defocused beam is provided. The antenna system includes a reflector having a focal plane and a non-parabolic curvature for forming the at least one defocused beam, and a plurality of feed antennas that illuminate the reflector. Each feed antenna is disposed in the focal plane of the reflector. The antenna system further includes at least one incoming signal dividing network that divides at least one incoming signal into a plurality of sub-signals, each corresponding to one of the feed antennas, a plurality of variable phase shifters, each receiving one of the sub-signals from the incoming signal dividing network and phase shifting the sub-signal to generate a corresponding phase-shifted sub-signal, and a plurality of fixed-amplitude amplifiers, at least one corresponding to each of the feed antennas. The at least one amplifier for each feed antenna amplifies the corresponding phase-shifted sub-signal to generate an amplified phase-shifted sub-signal which is provided to the corresponding feed antenna.
Abstract:
An antenna apparatus that has an increased efficiency, and a method for increasing the efficiency of multi-mode antenna feed horns, is disclosed. The method comprises the steps of exciting, within the antenna, a desired transmission mode and an undesired transmission mode of the signal to be transmitted, and converting, within the antenna, power within the undesired transmission mode into power for the desired transmission mode of the signal to be transmitted. An antenna apparatus in accordance with the present invention comprises a feed horn having an input opening, an aperture, and a cavity, disposed between the input opening and the aperture, for suppressing an undesired transmission mode of the antenna and exciting a desired transmission mode of the antenna.
Abstract:
A satellite broadcast system and method, particularly useful for television signals, allows for local as well as nationwide broadcast service by allocating greater satellite resources to the more important local service areas. This is accomplished by broadcasting a non-uniform pattern of local service beams and designing the system to establish different service area priorities through factors such as the individual beam powers, sizes, roll-off characteristics and peak-to-edge power differentials. Frequency reuse is enhanced by permitting a certain degree of cross-beam interference, with lower levels of interference established for the more important service areas.

Abstract:
An antenna assembly includes a reflector having a focal plane, a first feed element located along the focal plane that illuminates the reflector to create a first contour beam at a first frequency and a second feed element located further from the reflector than the first feed element that illuminates the reflector to create a first spot beam at a second frequency, the second frequency being different than the first frequency.
Abstract:
