Abstract: A user equipment device (UE) may communicate according to a new device category satisfying specified QoS (quality of service) requirements while also satisfying specified link budget requirements, and additional optimization requirements. The UE may use physical channels and procedures (e.g. it may receive and decode control channels) in a manner compatible with and not infringing on the operation of other UEs operating in the same network, while allowing the network more flexibility to assign resources. Specifically, resources for EPDCCH on UE-specific SS and EPDCCH on common SS may be shared. That is, the resources for two search spaces may be overlaid partially or in full, giving the network more flexibility in allocating resources. Furthermore the DCI formats for MPDCCH may be extended to devices operating according to the new device category, which enables the coverage enhancement of MTC for these devices.

Abstract: A user equipment (UE) device may communicate according to a new device category satisfying specified QoS (quality of service) requirements while also satisfying specified link budget requirements, and/or additional optimization requirements. The UE device may communicate with a cellular base station according to a first mode of operation associated with the new device category, and may switch to communicating with the cellular base station according to a second mode of operation associated with a second (pre-existing) device category in response to the link budget requirements exceeding a specified value and the quality of service requirements not being sensitive. The UE device may also switch to communicating with the cellular base station according to a third mode of operation associated with a third (pre-existing) device type in response to the link budget requirement not exceeding the specified value, or the QoS requirements being sensitive and a downlink throughput requirement exceeding a specified throughput value.

Abstract: User equipment (UE) applies a first code division multiplex access (CDMA) code to a baseband signal to generate a first signal, and a second CDMA code to the baseband signal to generate a second signal. The UE then transmits the first signal to a receiving device via a first antenna, and the second signal to the receiving device via a second antenna. The receiving device receives the first and second signals as a combined signal at an antenna, and extracts the first signal from the combined signal using the first CDMA code, and extracts the second signal from the combined signal using the second CDMA code. The CDMA codes may be real-valued or complex-valued. In some embodiments, the UE may separate the baseband signals into first and second portions, and transmit the first portion as part of the first signal and the second portion as part of the second signal.

Abstract: This disclosure relates to performing cellular communication in unlicensed spectrum in a manner that accounts for the possible existence of hidden nodes by opportunistically introducing the use of RTS and CTS messages. A listen-before-talk procedure may be performed to determine whether a wireless medium is available. When the listen-before-talk procedure is complete, an amount of time until a next possible start time for communicating in the cellular communication system according to a timing synchronization scheme for the cellular communication system may be determined. The wireless medium may be occupied until the next possible start time for communicating in the cellular communication system in a manner selected based at least in part on the amount of time until the next possible start time for communicating in the cellular communication system. Cellular communication may be performed on the wireless medium at the next possible start time for communicating in the cellular communication system.

Abstract: This disclosure relates to techniques for providing robust downlink control information with flexible resource assignments for wireless devices that operate in a restricted bandwidth compared to the system bandwidth. A base station may determine a resource assignment for a wireless device. The base station may transmit downlink control information to the wireless device. The downlink control information may include an indication of a resource assignment for the wireless device. The indication of the resource assignment may include an indication of a first narrowband associated with the resource assignment, and an indication of whether one or more additional narrowbands are associated with the resource assignment. The base station and the wireless device may communicate data according to the resource assignment.

Abstract: Techniques are disclosed relating to DC interference cancelation in received wireless signals. Disclosed techniques may be performed in the digital domain, in conjunction with analog cancelation techniques. In some embodiments, a receiver apparatus operates a local oscillator at a frequency corresponding to a particular pilot symbol in a received wireless signal. In some embodiments the receiver estimates DC interference at the frequency based on the received pilot symbol (this may be facilitated by the fact that the contents of pilot symbols are known, because they are typically used for channel estimation). In some embodiments, the receiver apparatus is configured to cancel the DC interference based on the estimate to determine received data in subsequently received signals at the frequency. Disclosed techniques may allow narrowband receivers to efficiently use more of their allocated frequency bandwidth, rather than wasting bandwidth near the frequency of the local oscillator.

Abstract: A wireless communication device (UE) may monitor grants received from respective cells associated with one or more first (e.g. licensed) frequency band(s) and one or more second (e.g. unlicensed) frequency band(s). Based on the received grants the UE may determine if an imbalance exists in the radio resource allocation, whereby the UE communicates more than intended in the second frequency band(s). The imbalance may be specified with respect to the ratio or portion of the communications that are conducted in the second frequency band(s) with respect to all wireless communications of the UE. If the UE detects an imbalance, it may transmit a report to the network (e.g. to the base station serving the UE) indicating unfavorable conditions for the UE to be operating in the second frequency band(s). In response, the network may disable the respective cell(s) associated with the second frequency band(s) and/or it may disable carrier aggregation for the UE.

Abstract: This disclosure relates to an apparatus, system, and method for generating uplink transmissions using a polar architecture including a phase locked loop with potential for two point injection. According to some embodiments, frequency resources allocated for a transmission may be determined. A cartesian baseband signal may be generated for the uplink transmission. The cartesian baseband signal may be converted to a polar baseband signal, including a baseband phase signal and an amplitude signal. Modulation parameters, potentially including whether to use one point injection or two point injection with a phase locked loop, may be determined. The baseband phase signal may be upconverted to an RF phase signal according to the determined modulation parameters. The RF phase signal may be amplified according to the amplitude signal to produce an RF signal. The RF signal may be transmitted.
