Abstract:
A radial gap motor/generator that may be air or liquid cooled. The motor/generator has a stator in radially spaced relation to at least one thin annular induction structure. The motor/generator has at least two spaced apart annular rings each having an inner surface and outer surface, the annular rings having a permanent magnet structure embedded between the inner surface and outer surface of the annular rings. The motor/generator has at least two spaced apart radial gaps, the first gap between the first annular ring and the induction structure and the second gap between the second annular ring and the induction structure, the stator being disposed between the gaps. The motor/generator may include multiple gaps and multiple annular induction structures to increase the overall power density of the system.
Abstract:
A ceramic foam reinforced structural material is disclosed as comprising either a hollow-legged or a solid legged ceramic open-celled foam. The foam is saturated with or surrounded by a resilient polymeric or other ductile material such as a plastic, to obtain a structural member with the high compressibility of ceramics while eliminating the edge brittleness inherent therein. The ductile material further provides the material with suitably fastenable and workable surfaces. Where an impact barrier is desired to be made of the structural material the ceramic foam is disclosed as being filled at least partially with a flowable material such as a liquid or a gel.
Abstract:
A modular motor system and methods wherein at least two dual radial gap motors with attachment points may be joined together in a modular manner for the purpose of providing the capability of incrementally increasing or decreasing the total power output of the modular.
Abstract:
A multiple radial gap BLPMDC/BLPMAC motor/generator suitable for direct drive wind or other fluid medium driven turbines or other rotary machine application. Each rotor and stator segment are housed in a fixture having an intermediate interior ramp angularly inclined at an angle of from about 10° to about 80° to cause the rotor/stator segments to interact at the axis of rotation of the fluid medium driven rotating machine at the same angle.
Abstract:
An electrode cap and adapter assembly includes a cap having a useful life line inscribed thereon. The cap may be either a circumferentially configured internally finned cap or a self-dressing internally finned cap. The male/female adapter is used to mount a female cap to a male shank.

Abstract:
The present invention provides a spot resistance welding electrode cap for welding two or more work-pieces together, including a substantially cylindrical body having an interior surface, an exterior surface, and a tapered interior cavity for frictionally fitting over an electrode shank. The exterior surface of the body includes a plurality of longitudinally extending depressions or flutes formed therein which provide an increased external surface area to the electrode cap, thus increasing the ability to transfer additional amounts of heat. The electrode cap further includes a plurality of fins disposed on the interior surface of the body within the interior cavity. The free ends of the fins are chamfered in order to ease the transition of coolant flowing throughout the shank proximate the electrode cap.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a module dual radial gap brushless, permanent magnet AC or DC (BLPMAC/BLPMDC) rotary electrical motor/generator suitable for direct drive wind or other fluid medium driven turbines. The motor/generator includes a circular rotor ring of individual rotor segments and a circular stator ring of individual stator segments. Each rotor segment includes a plurality of magnet modules disposed therein and arranged in alternating magnetic plurality. The stator includes a plurality of stator induction modules nested within the rotating rotor. Each stator induction module includes a coil electrically connected to a phase bus bar and a common bus bar. In a first embodiment of the stator induction modules, the motor/generator has a pre-established, fixed gap between the magnets and the coils. In a second embodiment of the stator induction modules, the generator has a gap controlled by a self-calibrating mechanism that compensates for variations in dimensional tolerance and concentricity between the rotor and the stator.
Abstract:
A radial gap motor/generator has a thin annular array of magnets mounted for rotation to a stator in a radially spaced relation to at least one thin annular induction structure fixed to a stationary stator may be air or liquid cooled. Further, the motor has at least radial gap between a magnetic core and the array and may include multiple gaps and multiple annular induction structures to increase the overall power density of the system.
