Abstract:
Disclosed herein are methods and apparatuses for cleaning at least one edge of a substrate. Exemplary methods and apparatuses include a cleaning system comprising (a) a plurality of fluid channels, (b) a plurality of brushes, (c) at least one nozzle, and (d) at least one vibration generator. The brushes may comprise a plurality of bristles and/or nodules and may be connected to at least one of the fluid channels such that fluid flows through the bristles and/or nodules to the substrate edge. At least one vibration generator may be connected to the cleaning system and configured to deliver sonic energy to the plurality of brushes.
Abstract:
Anti-glare glass-based articles and methods of processing a glass based article to reduce warp are disclosed. A method for processing a glass-based article includes etching a first surface of the glass article to create a first anti-glare surface having a plurality of first anti-glare features and etching a second surface of the glass-based article to create a second anti-glare surface having a plurality of second anti-glare features. At least one of a length, a width, and a diagonal of the glass-based article is greater than or equal to 500 mm. A difference of warp between a first warp value before etching the first surface and the second surface and a second warp value after etching the first surface and the second surface is less than or equal to 0.15 mm across each of one or more 500 mm intervals of length, width, or diagonal of the glass-based article.
Abstract:
Methods of shaping a glass sheet each include a step of removing a first portion of the glass sheet to form a first beveled surface. The methods further include the step of removing a second portion of the glass sheet to form a second beveled surface. The methods still further include the step of removing a third portion of the glass sheet comprising a remainder of an end surface of an edge portion of the glass sheet. In further examples, glass sheets are also provided with a first bevel surface intersecting a first glass-sheet surface and an apex surface, and a second bevel surface intersecting a second glass-sheet surface and the apex surface. The glass sheet exhibits a probability of failure of less than 5% at an edge stress of 135 MPa.
Abstract:
A method for forming a glass sheet with reduced inclusions is disclosed. The method includes flowing molten glass over converging forming surfaces of a forming body positioned within an enclosure. The forming body is heated with a plurality of heating elements separated from the forming body by an inner wall of the enclosure. The temperature T2 at the bottom of the forming body is decoupled from the temperature T1 at the top of the forming body by an insulating thermal barrier positioned between two adjacent heating elements of the plurality of heating elements such that a change in T2 does not cause a substantial change in T1.
Abstract:
This disclosure features use of a paper or polymer film that includes a slip agent that can transfer to its surfaces. Once the paper or film is pressed against a glass sheet, this will leave a thin surface roughness of slip agent that can prevent or reduce glass surface scratches from other surfaces or particles during shipping or finishing (e.g., cutting to size, conveyance of glass), thereby improving the yield of glass shipments between glass forming plants and customers. The thin discontinuous layer of slip agent remaining on the glass surface can be washed off easily in subsequent washing processes. The paper or film can have the slip agent imbibed within the paper or coated on it as a surface member.
Abstract:
A method of cleaning thin glass substrates comprises applying a sequence of chemical washing steps as the thin glass substrate is being conveyed in a conveyance direction. In addition, surfaces of the glass substrate may be treated to enhance electrostatic discharge properties of the glass substrates.
Abstract:
An apparatus for forming a glass sheet with reduced zircon inclusions in the glass sheet is disclosed. In one embodiment, the apparatus comprises heating elements distributed vertically between the weirs of a forming wedge and the root of the forming wedge, and wherein a thermal barrier is disposed between adjacent heating elements. A method of using the apparatus is also disclosed.

Abstract:
A protective paper or film and a method of protecting a glass substrate by applying the protective paper or film having a slip agent composition onto a surface of a glass substrate. The slip agent composition comprises at least one fatty alcohol as defined herein.
