    摘要: Ferrules made of nano-titanium for incorporation into feedthrough filter capacitor assemblies are described. The feedthrough filter capacitor assemblies are particularly useful for incorporation into implantable medical devices such as cardiac pacemakers, cardioverter defibrillators, and the like, to decouple and shield internal electronic components of the medical device from undesirable electromagnetic interference (EMI) signals. Nano-titanium experiences significantly less grain growth after high temperature brazing in comparison to commercially pure (CP) titanium and the titanium alloy Ti-6Al-4V. For that reason, nano-titanium is an ideal material for use in implantable medical applications where high strength, structural integrity even after heating and corrosion resistance are desired.

    摘要: In an electromagnetic interference (EMI) filter terminal for an active implantable medical device (AIMD), an insulated and shielded RF telemetry pin is provided to prevent re-radiation of unwanted stray signals, including the telemetry signal itself, to adjacent sensitive circuits or lead wires. The invention provides for an EMI filter terminal assembly for an AIMD including a radio frequency (RF) telemetry pin antenna extending therethrough. The RF telemetry pin antenna includes a conductive shield extending over a portion of the RF telemetry pin antenna in non-conductive relation with the telemetry pin, and conductively connected to a ground associated with the AIMD. The assembly may also include an insulation tube between the RF telemetry pin antenna and the conductive shield covering a portion of the RF telemetry pin antenna.

    摘要: Coatings for implantable electrodes consisting of single- or multi-walled nanotubes, nanotube ropes, carbon whiskers, and a combination of these are described. The nanotubes can be carbon or other conductive nanotube-forming materials such as a carbon-doped boron nitride. The nanotube coatings are grown “in situ” on a catalytic substrate surface from thermal decomposition, or they are bonded to the substrate using a metal or conductive metal oxide thin film binder deposited by means of a metal compound precursor in liquid form. In the latter case, the precursor/nanotube coating is then converted to a pure metal or conductive metal oxide, resulting in the desired surface coating with imbedded nanotubes.

    摘要: A feedthrough terminal pin assembly includes an outer ferrule hermetically sealed through a braze joint to an insulator seated within the ferrule is described. The insulator is also hermetically brazed to at least one terminal pin. The terminal pin is provided with a braze retention structure such as an annular groove that prevents braze material from filleting past the groove. Similarly, either the ferrule or the insulator is provided with a retention structure such as an annular groove that prevents braze material spill out from the insulator/ferrule interface. In that manner, the braze retention structures keep braze material from accumulating in unwanted areas where it could adversely affect hermeticity as well as proper attachment of an EMI filter to the feedthrough assembly.

    摘要: High reliability electrical connections between a helical strand and flat electrodes, such as strip electrodes found in implantable neurostimulator systems, are described. The connection consists of a crimp joint in which an inside diameter mandrel is used to provided the coil with sufficient radial rigidity to ensure structural integrity of the crimp. The mandrel is made of a relatively soft biocompatible material that deforms rather than damages the fine wires of the helical strand during crimping. The crimp is accomplished by radial deformation of an annular or semi-annular crimping member that receives the helical strand/mandrel assembly.

    摘要: A filter capacitor comprising a pre-sintered substrate supporting alternating active and ground electrode layers segregated by a dielectric layer is described. The substrate is of a ceramic material that maintains its shape and structure dimensions even after undergoing numerous sintering steps. Consequently, relatively thin active and ground electrode layers along with the intermediate dielectric layer can be laid down or deposited by a screen-printing technique. Using a relatively thin over-glaze in comparison to a thick upper dielectric layer finishes the capacitor. Consequently, a significant amount of space is saved in comparison to a comparably rated capacitor or, a capacitor of a higher rating can be provided in the same size as a conventional prior art capacitor. The pre-sintered ceramic substrate is used instead of conventional tape cast technology for the base dielectric.

    摘要: The self-resonance insertion loss dip of a feedthrough capacitor is reduced or eliminated by raising the equivalent series resistance of the capacitor, thus minimizing the capacitor Q. The equivalent series resistance of the capacitor can be raised by forming voids in the active and/or ground electrode plates of the capacitor. The electrode plates may be formed so as to have a relatively reduced thickness, or a relatively increased thickness. A conductive material having a relatively high resistivity may be used to form the active and/or ground electrode plates of the capacitor. Alternatively, the conductive material forming the electrode plates may have a dielectric material added thereto.
