    Abstract: The invention provides methods and systems for extending RSVP signaling to wireless networks. RSVP messages may be intercepted by an RSVP daemon, adjusted as necessary to accommodate the wireless network, and then forwarded on as RSVP messages either on a traffic channel or as a short data burst. Alternatively, the RSVP messages may be encapsulated in layer 3 messages. Alternatively, RSVP messages may be intercepted by another component, such as a PDSN, which then coordinates the establishment of the requested wireless connection.

    Abstract: In a communication system, physical-layer frames for transmission over the physical layer are assembled from link-layer protocol data units (PDU's) by combining several PDU's into a variable-length first block, and providing the first block with an error detection and/or correction code such as a CRC. The second blocks are mapped into physical-layer frames, including repetitive copies of the second blocks if space permits.     Abstract: The present invention supports a message protocol on a wireless communication network to setup a shortened slot cycle operation for a mobile station. During wireless, packet-based communication, a mobile station can utilize a shortened slot cycle to increase the frequency a communication channel is monitored by a mobile station while in idle state. While this is advantageous to communication requiring a fast response, it increases power consumption and decreases battery charge time. Under present usage, the shortened slot cycle must be used by all mobile stations connected to the base transceiver whether required or not.To increase efficiency and avoid unnecessary power consumption, the invention allows only those mobile stations that require it to implement the shortened slot cycle. Signaling messages sent from the mobile station to the base station controller will initiate a shortened slot cycle only for that mobile station. Other mobile stations connected to the base transceiver operate without implementing the shortened slot cycle.
