摘要: Digital ink jet printing apparatus and method. The apparatus receives an input image file having a plurality of pixels, each pixel described by at least one pixel value respectively associated with an optical density. The apparatus comprises a printhead and at least one nozzle integrally attached to the printhead, the nozzle being capable of ejecting an ink droplet therefrom to define an associated one of the optical densities. A waveform generator is connected to the nozzle for generating an electronic waveform to be supplied to the nozzle. In this manner, the nozzle ejects the ink droplet in response to the waveform supplied thereto. The waveform is defined by a plurality of pulses. A look-up table stores a plurality of waveform serial numbers assigned to respective waveforms, each waveform being defined by at least one predetermined parameter, such as number of pulses, pulse amplitude, pulse width and/or time delay between pulses. A calibrator receiving the input image converts the pixel values of the input image to waveform index number associated with the waveform serial number.

摘要: Ink jet printing apparatus for forming a plurality of ink images on receivers in response to one or more digital image file(s) each including at least one or more digital images and information indicating the number of ink images to be made. The ink jet printing apparatus includes at least one ink jet print head adapted to deliver ink to the receiver and at least two receiver webs. The ink jet printing apparatus selectively moves one or more receiver webs along a receiver path past the ink jet print head. A control circuitry responsive to the digital image file(s) determines the locations of the ink images to be formed on the two receiver webs in such a manner that minimizes receiver waste. The ink jet printing apparatus actuates the ink jet print head(s) to form ink images on the receiver webs, whereby receiver waste is minimized.

摘要: Printer and print head capable of printing in a plurality of dynamic ranges of ink droplet volumes, and method of assembling same. A plurality of first nozzles are connected to a print head body, each first nozzle having a first orifice of a first size for ejecting an ink droplet having a first volume. The ink droplet volume is selected from a first dynamic range of volumes uniquely associated with each first nozzle. A plurality of second nozzles are also connected to the print head body, each second nozzle having a second orifice of a second size larger than the first size of the first nozzles for ejecting an ink droplet therethrough having a second volume larger than the first volume. The second volume is selected from a second dynamic range of volumes, which second dynamic range of volumes may be greater than the first dynamic range of volumes. In this manner, the printer and associated print head body are capable of printing in a plurality of dynamic ranges of volumes, so that a single printer can print either at low density levels or at high density levels with a minimum number of nozzles.

摘要: In accordance with a feature of the present invention, an ink jet printing assembly includes a plurality of nozzles having a respective ink-ejection opening arranged to form at least one nozzle group. The ink-ejection opening of each of the nozzles that form a nozzle group has a size essentially equal to a corresponding size of the ink-ejection openings of all other nozzles of the group. Each of the nozzles of a group are respectively adapted to produce a different print density when actuated by an input signal.

摘要: A electronic printing apparatus includes memory for storing a digitized image. A receiver is transported to an image forming position, the receiver including field-driven particles in a matrix that can change reflective density in response to an applied electric field. The apparatus further includes an array of electrodes for selectively applying electric fields at the image forming position across the receiver; a heater for heating the receiver to increase the temperature of the matrix so as to increase the mobility of the field-driven particles in the matrix; and electronic control circuitry coupled to the array for selectively applying voltages to the array so that fields are applied at the image forming position to the heated field-driven particles at particular locations on the receiver corresponding to pixels in response to the stored image whereby the electrode produces an image in the receiver corresponding to the stored image in the receiver.

摘要: Imaging apparatus and method adapted to control ink droplet volume and void formation. The apparatus includes an ink jet print head having a nozzle for ejecting an ink droplet therefrom. A heater element is in heat transfer communication with the ink droplet for variably supplying heat energy to the ink droplet, so that the volume of the ink droplet is controlled as the heat energy is variably supplied to the ink droplet. A controller is connected to the heater element for variably controlling the heat energy supplied to the ink droplet. The controller variably controls the heat energy by variably controlling a plurality of voltage pulses sequentially supplied to the heater element. Moreover, in order to reduce the potential for void formation in the ink droplet, the pulses are spaced-apart by a predetermined delay interval. Suitable control of ink droplet volume and delay interval between pulses results in uniform print density and "gray-scaling" of each dot or pixel in the output image and also precludes void formation.
