    Abstract: An image forming apparatus includes: a transport unit that transports a recording medium whose image formation surface has electric conductivity; a transfer unit that makes contact with the image formation surface of the recording medium transported by the transport unit and transfers an image formed with particles onto the image formation surface by an electric field formed between the transfer unit and the image formation surface; and a support unit that has electric conductivity, supports the recording medium so as to be conductive with the image formation surface of the recording medium, and is transported to the transfer unit together with the recording medium by the transport unit.

    Abstract: An image forming apparatus includes: a colorant image former; an image holder configured to hold a colorant image formed by the colorant image former and to be rotationally driven; a transfer member configured to transfer the colorant image onto a recording medium, which is transported from an upstream side, by sandwiching the recording medium between the transfer member and the image holder, and rotationally driving the transfer member to transport the recording medium to a downstream side; and a contact-and-separation mechanism configured to relatively contact or separate the image holder and the transfer member, in which, in response to an abnormality being detected, the image forming apparatus operates in a mode in which the contact-and-separation mechanism relatively separates the image holder and the transfer member, and then rotational driving of the transfer member is stopped after rotational driving of the image holder is stopped.

    Abstract: An image forming apparatus includes: a transfer cylinder that rotates; a rotating member that is coaxial with the transfer cylinder and rotates integrally with the transfer cylinder; a circulating member that is provided with a holding part that holds a front end portion of a recording medium, is suspended around the rotating member, and transports the recording medium by circulating as the rotating member rotates; and a transfer unit that has a transfer belt that sandwiches the recording medium transported by the circulating member at a nip position together with the transfer cylinder so that an image is transferred onto the recording medium. The nip position is located on one side relative to a center of the transfer unit in a horizontal direction when viewed from an axial direction of the rotating member, and a center of mass of the transfer unit is located on a nip position side relative to the center in the horizontal direction.
