Abstract:
A method and apparatus for automated play tracking sports play. A coordinating device receives first messages from player wireless sensors node carried by the players and a second message from a ball wireless sensor node carried by the ball. From these messages, the locations of the players and the ball are determined. From the relative locations of the players and the ball it is determined, which, if any, of the plurality of players possess the ball and a description of play is generated automatically. This description may be broadcast to subscribers via a network.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for behavior modification is provided herein. During operation an apparatus (100) learns what context causes desired and undesired physiological parameters and then coaches a user to be aware of context causing undesired behavior and avoid future occurrences. The apparatus may then recommend behavior modification prior to the parameter reaching elevated status. Because an individual will be warned when situations exist that will cause an undesired physiological parameters, the apparatus will suggest to the user a method to alleviate the situation, for example, substituting an activity or context that creates desired physiological patterns. The user will then be able to take appropriate steps to alleviate the situation.
Abstract:
A portable electronic device implements power management to accommodate operation of a projector from the device's power source. The portable device includes a power source, a memory, a user interface, and a processor. The memory stores an image file and associated content metadata. The user interface receives a request to use the projector to perform a projection task, wherein the task includes projecting images from the image file onto a display surface. The processor is operable to: (i) retrieve the content metadata from the memory responsive to the request; (ii) project, based at least on the content metadata, whether the power source has sufficient power remaining for the projector to complete the task; and (iii) if there is not sufficient power remaining, modify parameters associated with the task and/or functionality of the portable device in an attempt to enable the power source to supply sufficient power to the projector.
Abstract:
A photoplethysmographic sensing system for determining a user's pulse rate includes a light emitting device (100, 201, 310, 500) including a first plurality of light emitting particles (108, 208, 317) having a first diameter and emitting light having a first wavelength. A detector (118, 218, 500) is positioned to receive light emitted from the plurality of light emitting particles (108, 208, 317) and a processing device (500) determines the pulse rate. The light emitting device (100, 201, 310, 500) and the detector (118, 218, 500) are disposed on a flexible polymeric material (102, 202, 334). The light emitting device (100, 201, 310, 500) may include a second plurality of light emitting particles (108, 208, 317) having a second diameter and emitting light having a second wavelength, wherein the processing device (500) determines the user's blood oxygen level. The light emitting particles (108, 208, 317) may comprise one of quantum dots, electroluminescent particles, or organic particles.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus are disclosed for providing a prioritized list of display devices for display of a media file, the prioritized list being provided on a mobile computing device, the display devices being connected to the mobile computing device in a network. The method may include determining characteristics of the media file, discovering by the mobile computing device the display devices connected to the mobile computing device, discovering by the mobile computing device display characteristics of the display devices, creating the prioritized list of display devices by comparing the characteristics of the media file to the display characteristics of the display devices, and providing the prioritized list of the display devices on the mobile computing device for selection by a user.
Abstract:
A user can create “virtual graffiti” that will be left for a particular device to view as part of an augmented reality scene. The virtual graffiti will be assigned to a particular physical location or a part of an object that can be mobile. The virtual graffiti is then uploaded to a network server, along with the location and individuals who are able to view the graffiti as part of an augmented reality scene. When a device that is allowed to view the graffiti is near the location, the graffiti will be downloaded to the device and displayed as part of an augmented reality scene. To further enhance the user experience, the virtual graffiti can be dynamic, changing based on a context. For example, a user may leave a virtual graffiti message that changes with, for example, outside temperature, location, weather conditions, or any other context.
Abstract:
A method and wireless communication device are provided for managing information associated with purchases of active lifestyle products. The method includes receiving a notification (704) indicating a purchase transaction associated with at least one radio frequency ID enabled item. The notification is analyzed (706) and in response to the analyzing a user identifier corresponding to a user related to the purchase transaction is determined (708). A radio frequency ID associated with the at least one radio frequency ID enabled item is also determined (710). A wireless device (104) associated with the user is identified based on the user identifier (712). An information set associated with the at least one radio frequency ID enabled item is transmitted (714) to the wireless device (104). The information set includes at least the radio frequency ID associated with the at least one radio frequency ID enabled item.
Abstract:
A method, wireless communication device, and radio frequency ID reader are provided for monitoring radio-frequency identification enabled items. The method includes receiving a set of radio frequency IDs (1104) representing a set of radio frequency ID enabled items (110) to be monitored. An identifier representing a user activity and its relationship with at least one radio frequency ID in the set of radio frequency IDs and at least one radio frequency ID reader is received (1106). The method also includes determining if at least one condition associated with the user activity has occurred indicating that the user activity is occurring (1108). The set of radio frequency IDs representing a set of radio frequency ID enabled items (110) to be monitored by the at least one radio frequency ID reader are monitored (1110) in response to the determining that the at least one condition is occurring.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for communicating with goods transported in a container by a carrier. New information to be transmitted is stored in a database of the carrier. When the container is in proximity of a communication node of the carrier, the carrier communication node transmits the new information to the intelligent device of the container. The container intelligent device of the container then communicates the new information to a second intelligent device associated with the transported goods. The second intelligent device then stores the new information and/or transmits it to an RFID tag of the transported goods. The new information may be encrypted for secure communication.
