The mobile fuel filter comprises: a filter median comprising an absorbent for removing sulfur-containing compounds from the diesel fuel, the filter median being in fluid communication with a storage device, the storage device having a holding capacity greater than 1000 gallons and being configured for storing the diesel fuel, the absorbent being configured to remove sulfur containing compounds from the diesel fuel to produce filtered diesel fuel having less than 15 ppm of sulfur containing compounds, the absorbent comprises an inorganic oxide having a surface acidity characterized by a pKa of at least −3.

    摘要: Modification, neutralization and/or decontamination of airborne biological and/or chemical contaminants from a breathable atmosphere by subjecting the breathable atmosphere to a filter which is formed from a plurality of polymeric multilobal fibers. These fibers include a central core with T-shaped lobes projecting therefrom, wherein each T-shaped lobe has a leg and a cap. The lobes define a longitudinally extending internal cavity between two adjacent legs that extends the entire length of the fiber. The filter is impregnated with a biological and/or chemical decontamination reagent for chemically modifying, neutralizing and/or decontaminating airborne biological and/or chemical contaminants from a breathable atmosphere. A filter projection preferably extends into an external reservoir containing a supply of biological and/or chemical decontamination reagent. This configuration increases the capacity and efficiency of the filter, and causes a lower pressure differential across the filter.

    摘要: A nonwoven filter media or mat (10) formed from a plurality of elongated generally hollow fibers (20) each having an internal cavity (22) which has an opening (24), smaller than the cavity width, to the fiber (20) surface and each retaining within the internal cavity (22) an electrically conductive material. The electrically conductive material can be a large number of relatively small conductive solid particles (18). The small solid particles (18), which can be graphite are permanently entrapped within the longitudinal cavities (22) of the fibers (20) without the use of an adhesive. The electrically conductive material can also be a selected liquid. In the case of a liquid, the wicking fibers (20) are filled with the selected conductive liquid through capillary action by which the individual wicking fibers (20) rapidly draw the selected electrically conductive liquid, with which they come into contact, through the internal cavities (22). The electrically conductive material, either solid particles or a liquid, remains within the wicking fiber cavities (22) and generally does not enter the space between the wicking fibers yet through the longitudinal openings (24).

    摘要: Composites on a porous support of an insolubilized, crosslinked cyclodextrin show improved mass transfer characteristics relative to discrete particles of the same insolubilized cyclodextrin. Dicarboxylic acid dihalides are particularly effective crosslinking agents. The composites can be prepared quite simply and cost effectively by impregnating a support, such as alumina, with a cyclodextrin, then reacting the cyclodextrin within the impregnated support with a suitable dicarboxylic acid dihalide, such as one from the alkane dicarboxylic acid series containing from 4 through 12 carbon atoms.

    摘要: Support matrices for immobilized enzymes may be prepared by treating a solid porous, inorganic, water-insoluble support such as an alumina with a prepolymerized polymeric compound. After treating the solid support the resultant organic-inorganic composite may then be derivatized, one example of derivatization being nitration of the composite with nitric acid and reducing the nitro-substituted composite to form an aminopolystyrene alumina composite. This composite is then treated with a bifunctional monomer to form a copolymeric which is substantially entrapped in the pores of the solid support, said copolymeric material containing functionalized pendent groups to which an enzyme may be coupled to form an immobilized enzyme conjugate.
