摘要: The present invention provides a method, system, and computer program product for failure detection with minimal bandwidth usage. A method for failure detection in a multi-node system in accordance with an embodiment of the present invention includes the steps of associating all connections between a first node and a second node with a last receipt value and a maximum idle value, calculating a difference between the last receipt value and a current time, and establishing a heartbeat connection from the first node to the second node if the difference between the last receipt value and the current time exceeds the maximum idle value. A heartbeat process is then initiated over the heartbeat connection to determine the condition of the second node.

摘要: Incoming work units (e.g., requests) in a computing workload are analyzed and classified according to predicted execution. Preferred embodiments track which instrumented wait points are encountered by the executing work units, and this information is analyzed to dynamically and autonomically create one or more recognizers to programmatically recognize similar, subsequently-received work units. When a work unit is recognized, its execution behavior is then predicted. Execution resources are then allocated to the work units in view of these predictions. The recognizers may be autonomically evaluated or tuned, thereby adjusting to changing workload characteristics. The disclosed techniques may be used advantageously in application servers, message-processing software, and so forth.

摘要: In an Internet chat environment, chat feedback indicators show receiver users of a chat application that at least one sender is in the process of preparing a message for viewing by chat environment participants. As a sender types text, a length of the text is sent to the receivers via unreliable data packets. Thus, the receivers are shown mask characters that correspond to the number of textual entries mede by the sender. The sender is, therefore, provided with some sense of security in that the typed text will not be displayed to the receivers until complete. In addition, the receivers are provided with an indication that something is being prepared for display to them.

摘要: Embodiments of the present invention provide a method, system and computer program product for weather adaptive environmentally hardened appliances. In an embodiment of the invention, a method for weather adaptation of an environmentally hardened computing appliance includes determining a location of an environmentally hardened computing appliance. Thereafter, a weather forecast including a temperature forecast can be retrieved for a block of time at the location. As a result, a cache policy for a cache of the environmentally hardened computing appliance can be adjusted to account for the weather forecast.

摘要: A method for application-specific chargeback of content cached at a wireless tower of a RAN includes receiving a request for content from an end user device in a base station of a RAN and routing the request to an application in a packet switched data communications network from the base station by way of a CN. Content from the application can be received in the base station within a response to the request, the response can be cached in a local cache of the base station in connection with the application and the response can be forwarded to the end user device. Subsequently, in response to a new request for the content received in the base station, the content can be served in a response from the local cache. Further, an identity of the application can be transmitted to a remote charging service external to the base station but within the RAN for charging the application in consequence of having served the content from the local cache of the base station.

摘要: A method, apparatus, system, and signal-bearing medium that in an embodiment determine the active partitions of an application and assign the active partitions among servers via a routing table. The routing table is sent to a client, who uses the routing table to send requests and/or messages to the active partitions. In an embodiment, the routing table includes identifiers of the active partitions and the associated partitions. If one of the servers fails or if the partitions have a loading imbalance, the partitions are reassigned via the routing table.

摘要: A method, computer program product, and a data processing system for transforming markup language documents is provided. A first markup language document in a first format to be transformed into a second document of a second format is obtained. A reference to a source of a data fragment to be inserted into the second document is identified. A data fragment cache is interrogated. A determination of whether the data fragment is located in the data fragment cache is made. The first markup language document is transformed into the second document. The second document includes the data fragment.
