Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for assisting operation of a vehicle using speech recognition and transcription using text-to-speech for transcription playback with variable emphasis. One method involves analyzing a transcription of an audio communication with respect to the vehicle to identify an operational term pertaining to a current operational context of the vehicle within the transcription, creating an indicator identifying the operational term within the transcription for emphasis when the operational term pertains to the current operational context of the vehicle, identifying a user-configured playback rate; and generating an audio reproduction of the transcription of the audio communication in accordance with the user-configured playback rate, wherein the operational term is selectively emphasized within the audio reproduction based on the indicator.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for implementing condition-based actions in an aircraft. A flight plan received from a flight management system (FMS) is rendered on a display device. A condition and a condition-based action associated with avionic data at a point of interest selected from the flight plan is received via an onboard user device. Location data associated with the point of interest is received from at least one geospatial sensor. Current avionic data associated with the point of interest is received. A determination is made regarding whether the current avionic data fulfills the condition associated with the avionic data at the point of the interest. A notification associated with implementation of the condition-based action is displayed on the display device based on the determination.

One method autonomously detects an event with respect to manual operation of the vehicle based at least in part on output from one or more systems onboard the vehicle, identifies a hands-free functionality of a vehicle system to be activated based at least in part on a characteristic of the event, and autonomously initiates activation of the hands-free functionality of the vehicle system. A command for operating the vehicle is received from an external system via an onboard communications system and provided to the vehicle system for further implementation or execution using the hands-free functionality.

Abstract: An aircraft search and rescue mission effectiveness system includes a display device, a searchlight assembly, and a searchlight processing system. The searchlight assembly emits a light beam toward, and thus illuminates, a point of interest, and supplies beam data that includes at least light beam orientation and distance from the searchlight assembly to the point of interest. The searchlight processing system receives aircraft data and is configured to: process the aircraft data and the beam data to generate and supply geographic coordinate data for the point of interest, command the display device to render an image that includes at least a graphical representation of the point of interest and the geographic coordinate data for the point of interest, receive a user input command, and in response to receiving the user input command, to transmit the geographic coordinate data to one or more aircraft avionics systems.

Abstract: Systems and methods for defining a custom fix via a graphical user interface (GUI) for operation of an aircraft. The method includes uniquely sized and arranged custom fix dialog GUI windows that are displayed on an active avionic display, the custom fix dialog windows having preprogrammed arrangements of GUI objects. The GUI objects allow a user to select between custom airports or custom runways, and to select between create, edit, and store custom fix functions. The method decodes and sequences user input, as related to the displayed GUI objects. Embodiments keep track of required data fields for respective custom fixes, and store custom fix data in a custom database that is compatible with the navigation database and avionic display systems.

The method includes: receiving a transcribed message containing a plurality of words used by an ownship flight crew member in a communication directed to ATC; determining a message intent of the transcribed message from the words used in the communication; identifying a plurality of ideal words that should be used for an ideal message having the same message intent as the transcribed message; comparing the words used in the communication with the words that should have been used in the ideal message; determining based on the comparing whether the words used in the communication conformed to ATC standard phraseology (e.g., ICAO Pilot communication vocabulary); generating an indicator for flight crew that indicates whether the words used in the communication conformed to ATC standard phraseology; and signaling an aircraft display device to display the indicator.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides systems and methods for guiding a vertical takeoff and landing, VTOL, vehicle to an emergency landing zone. The systems and methods include determining, via at least one processor, candidate landing zone data by interrogating an emergency landing zone database based at least on VTOL vehicle location, the candidate landing zone data representing a list of candidate emergency landing zones. A target emergency landing zone is selected from the list of candidate emergency landing zones based at least on VTOL vehicle related issues including at least one of unanticipated yaw issues, ground effect issues and modified trend vector issues, thereby providing target emergency landing zone data. Guidance for the VTOL vehicle is determined based on the target emergency landing zone data.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for playback clearance assistance, the system includes a processing system configured to: in response to receipt of a voice clearance communication comprising a clearance message, decode the clearance message to identify features contained within the clearance message related to a command instruction or clearance data for a flight; determine, at least one applicable clearance message amendment solution for use to amend the clearance message from a set of applicable clearance message amendment solutions wherein the applicable clearance amendment solution is determined based on keywords retrieved from a plurality of databases comprising at least contextual and prior clearance message data; and apply the applicable clearance message amendment solution to append keywords to the clearance message to generate an appended clearance message that reduces ambiguity in the clearance message resulting from at least missing value data, non-standard terminology or incomplete message information.
