A method for providing environmental data to a vehicle such as an aircraft is provided. The method includes receiving a request from a vehicle to provide environmental data, and defining a route plan vicinity area as a part of a coverage polygon. The method further includes receiving alternate/back-up destinations selected from a list and defining and including in the coverage polygon one or more connection areas between the route plan vicinity area and the selected alternate/back-up destinations. The method smooths the coverage polygon and assembles environmental data for the smoothed coverage polygon. The assembled environmental data is sent to the vehicle.

A system and method for monitoring a communication channel and displaying information. A signal is received via the communication channel and signal information is extracted from the signal. The signal information is monitored for a predetermined indicator. Selected information is extracted from the signal information when the predetermined indicator is detected in the signal information and then displayed.

The method identifies a subset of a predetermined travel route that is ahead of the vehicle, based on a selected distance quantity and a current position of the vehicle during traveling; and requests a set of data for the subset, the updated travel condition data comprising the set of data.

An apparatus and method for receiving and processing weather data and flight plan data is disclosed. The apparatus includes a first display, an input unit, and a processor. The processor is configured to receive flight plan data and weather data, and to determine, based on the weather data, which weather characteristics is located within a predetermined range of a predetermined flight altitude value. The processor is further configured to instruct the first display to display those weather data which are located within the predetermined range above and below the input flight altitude value together with the flight plan data, and to instruct the first display to additionally display at least one element of the group consisting of the elements: strategic information weather, uplink weather, weather information from external weather data provider, onboard weather radar information, notice to airmen, aeronautical information service data, terminal area forecast, air-traffic related information.

A processor-implemented method for dynamic contrast equalization for a see-through display subject to varying light conditions is provided. The method comprises: generating an intensity map for the field of view of the see-through display using a selected image portion of the retrieved image that is coextensive with the field of view of the see-through display; determining, using the intensity map, one or more sectors of the see-through display, on which a set of pixels corresponding to symbology in an overlay is to be displayed, that are in a high light intensity area; applying a filter to the see-through display at the one or more sectors of the see-through display to block a portion of light emanating from an external environment in the field of view of the see-through display; and displaying the overlay on the see-through display wherein the symbology is displayed over the one or more sectors.

A method for sending environmental data to a vehicle in transit is disclosed. The method is performed by a ground system. The method includes receiving new environmental data from a plurality of environmental data providers. The method also includes synthesizing an update template that identifies recommended portions of relevant data that are available to be uploaded for at least one of a plurality of environmental data services. The method also includes sending the update template to the vehicle using a low-bandwidth connection, wherein the update template is sent by the ground system without first receiving a request for the update template. The method also includes receiving, from the vehicle, a request for the recommended portions of relevant data. The method also includes sending the recommended portions of relevant data to the vehicle in an update package using a high-bandwidth connection.

Systems and methods capable of increasing reliability of received commands across a variety of different kinds of input devices and modalities are provided. The provided systems and methods easily expand to support additional input devices, and easily adapt to a wide variety of command destinations, such as subsystems and components. The provided systems and methods employ command specific verification strategies before transmitting the command to its destination. The provided systems and methods also concurrently support a wide variety of command destinations, such as subsystems and components.
