    摘要: The first present invention provides an optical switch including the following elements. At least a plurality of optical transmission lines are provided for transmissions of optical signals. Each of the at least plurality of optical transmission lines have at least an impurity doped fiber. At least an excitation light source is provided for emitting an excitation light. At least an excitation light switch is provided which is connected to the excitation light source and also connected to the at least plurality of optical transmission lines for individual switching operations to supply the excitation light to the at least plurality of optical transmission lines to feed the excitation light to the impurity doped fiber on the at least plurality of optical transmission lines, thereby causing an excitation of the impurity doped fiber on selected one of the at least plurality of optical transmission lines so as to permit a transmission of the optical signal through the excited impurity doped fiber, whilst unselected one of the impurity doped fibers is unexcited whereby the optical signals are absorbed into the unselected one of the impurity doped fibers thereby to discontinue transmission of the optical signal by the unselected one of the impurity doped fibers.

    摘要: In an optical transmission system comprising an optical branch unit, first through fourth OR/OS pairs each of which includes optical receiver and optical transmitter, optical switch devices for active and standby systems, each of the optical switch devices having an N number of input ports and M number of output ports; and an optical multiplexer for multiplexing an M number of optical signal supplied from the third OR/OS pair and an M number of optical signals supplied from the fourth OR/OS pair to produce an M number of optical signals, the optical switch devices and the first through the fourth OR/OS pairs have a 3-dB margin with respect to the input optical strength. First and second paths are each adjusted such that the time required for transmitting an optical signal is identical for all paths. The first path is from an output port of the optical branch unit to the point where the optical signals are multiplexed in the optical multiplexer via the first and the third OR/OS pairs, and the optical switch device for the active system. The second path is from an output port of the optical branch unit to the point where the optical signals are multiplexed in the optical multiplexer via the second and the fourth OR/OS pairs, and the optical switch device for the standby system.

WDM optical signal in which m×n WDM channels are multiplexed is divided into n WDM channel groups and outputted by means of one wavelength-division demultiplexer. One WDM channel group is selected from the n WDM channel groups by means of n optical gate switches. The selected WDM optical signal is then separated into m WDM channels by wavelength and outputted by means of an optical wavelength router.     摘要: A frequency stabilization method of a semiconductor laser is provided. A driving current, a forward voltage and an output light power of the laser mounted on a heat sink is detected. A temperature of the heat sink is also detected. A consumption power of the laser is obtained from the driving current and voltage thus detected, providing a relationship between the output light power and the consumption power. The driving current is controlled so that the output light power is kept constant, and the temperature of the heat sink is controlled based on the relationship so that a temperature of an active layer of the laser is maintained. The output light power is kept constant and at the same time, any temperature change of the active layer is cancelled through the temperature control of the heat sink. Even if the consumption power changes due to an leakage current and/or a recombination current without luminescence to maintain the output light power during long time operation, the temperature of the active layer is maintained by cancelling the consumption power change through the temperature control of the heat sink. Thus, the oscillation frequency of the semiconductor laser can be stabilized at a given value.

    摘要: A method of optical transmission comprises steps of generating a light signal, controlling a wavelength of the light signal in accordance with a correcting signal, and modulating an intensity of the light signal supplied from the light source to generate an output light signal in accordance with a modulating signal. The wavelength change of the light signal generated by the light source coincides with the wavelength change which occurs during the modulating step, so that the wavelength change is cancelled in the output light signal. An optical transmitter used in the method comprises a light source which generates a light signal, a correcting signal generating circuit which supplies the light source with a correcting signal for changing the wavelength of the light signal generated by the light source, and an optical modulator which modulates an intensity of the light signal supplied from the light source to generate an output light signal in accordance with a modulating signal.

    摘要: Parallel digital data are transmitted along with a specific synchronization pattern added thereto. Each synchronization pattern adder adds the synchronization pattern at an equal timing for each channel. Parallel data after the synchronization pattern addition, are converted in parallel-to-serial converters into serial data which are in turn converted in an optical transmitter into optical signal. On the receiving side, the optical signal is converted in an optical receiver into an electric signal, from which the parallel data are restored in serial-to-parallel converters to be inputted to synchronization pattern detectors. The synchronization pattern detectors compare their shift register data and synchronization pattern and hold their synchronization pattern detection signal to be "1" for one time slot if the number of non-accord bits is within one. In the next time slot, a controller recognizes synchronization pattern detection when and only when all the synchronization pattern detection signals are "1". In this way, reliable synchronization pattern detection can be made regardless of the occurrence of any transmission error in the synchronization pattern.
