A monolithic ink-jet printhead includes a substrate having an ink chamber, a manifold, and an ink channel in flow communication, a nozzle plate including a plurality of passivation layers stacked on the substrate and a heat dissipating layer stacked on the passivation layers, a nozzle for ejecting ink penetrating the nozzle plate, a heater provided between adjacent passivation layers above the ink chamber, and a conductor between adjacent passivation layers, the conductor being electrically connected to the heater, wherein the heat dissipating layer is made of a thermally conductive metal for dissipating heat from the heater, the lower part of the nozzle is formed by penetrating the plurality of passivation layers, and the upper part of the nozzle is formed by penetrating the heat dissipating layer in a tapered shape in which a cross-sectional area thereof decreases gradually toward an exit thereof.

A MEMS relay is provided. The MEMS relay includes a first wafer, a second wafer, and a third wafer that are sequentially stacked. The first wafer includes driving electrodes positioned at the bottom surface of the first wafer, input signal electrodes and output signal electrodes formed adjacent to each other and corresponding to the driving electrodes, via holes formed through the first wafer on the driving electrodes, the input signal electrodes, and the output signal electrodes, and metal pads formed over the via holes. The second wafer includes a body including a sealing unit used to hermetically seal the first and third wafers with the second wafer interposed therebetween, a driving unit which is formed inside and isolated from the body, is an integrated body consisting of a silicon substrate, a passivation layer formed on the silicon substrate, and contact electrodes formed on the passivation layer, and is located lower than the top surface of the body by a predetermined distance, and a connection supporter which extends from two opposing sides of the driving unit to the inner surface of the body. The third wafer includes a hollow in which the driving unit can be rotated.

A 2D/3D switchable backlight unit and an image display device employing the same are provided. The 2D/3D switchable backlight unit includes a light source, a light guide plate in which light emitted from the light source is total-internal-reflected, and a switch array comprising a plurality of switches that selectively contact a first surface of the light guide plate and emit light by frustrated total internal reflection inside the light guide plate. In 2D mode, each of the switches contacts the first surface of the light guide plate. In 3D mode, some of the switches contact the first surface of the light guide plate.

The apparatus includes a hologram reproducer configured to generate surface plasmons in response to incident light and reproduce a 3D image by diffracting the generated surface plasmons by a hologram, and a surface light source unit including a light source and a light guide plate, the light guide plate being configured to allow incident light from the light source to enter into the light guide plate, internally reflect the allowed light, and output the internally reflected light through a light-output surface, the surface light source unit being configured to implement colors by adjusting an angle of the light incident to the hologram reproducer so that the outputted light through the light-output surface is incident to the hologram reproducer at a surface plasmon-forming angle for each wavelength to generate the surface plasmons corresponding to a plurality of color beams.

An apparatus includes a recording light source configured to emit recording beams, an electrically addressable spatial light modulator (EASLM) configured to time sequentially modulate the recording beams emitted from the recording light source according to hologram information corresponding to a 3-dimensional image spatially divided into a plurality of portions, an optically addressable spatial light modulator (OASLM) configured to include a plurality of regions corresponding to the plurality of the divided portions of the 3-dimensional image and images on a region corresponding to the portions using the modulated recording beams to form a hologram, a scanning optical unit configured to reproduce the hologram formed by the recording beams serially modulated by the EASLM on a reduced scale and transmit the hologram to the regions of the OASLM corresponding to the portions, and a reproducing light source configured to produce a surface light and emit the surface light to the OASLM.

A 3D image display apparatus and a 3D image display method are provided. The 3D image display apparatus generates a 2D image region and a 3D image region, forms shutter patterns for the 3D and 2D image regions, and adjusts a light emitting direction according to the shutter patterns. Accordingly, the 2D and 3D images may be selectively displayed on one screen.
