Abstract:
Cartridges (64) are loaded into or retrieved from an automated media library (20) either singly through an entry/exit port module (54), or by opening a library door (30) and inserting/removing a cartridge magazine (52) from a magazine cavity (50) of the library. Structures are provided for precluding against overinsertion of a cartridge. An entry/exit port cartridge overinsertion protection assembly (450) is provided to prevent overinsertion of a media cartridge loaded into the entry/exit port module. The entry/exit port cartridge overinsertion protection assembly includes a cartridge restraint member (452) which is pivoted away from a cartridge restraint position by a cartridge transport device (92) when the transport device seeks to obtain or deposit a cartridge at the entry/exit port. A cartridge restraint assembly (300) is also provided to guard against overinsertion of a cartridge stored in a cartridge magazine. The cartridge restraint assembly which guards against overinsertion of a cartridge stored in a cartridge magazine is responsive to movement of a library door. Upon movement of the door from a door closed position to a door open position, the cartridge restraint assembly responsively moves into a cartridge restraint position to prevent over positioning of a cartridge situated in the cartridge magazine.
Abstract:
A cartridge library comprises plural cells for accommodating therein a cartridge of information storage media and a tape drive which transduces information relative when a cartridge is loaded into the drive. A cartridge loader (also known as the cartridge transport assembly) is mounted to the drive assembly for picking a selected cartridge from one of the cells and for inserting the selected cartridge into a cartridge slot in the drive. The drive assembly is stationary but the cartridge loader is pivotal about the drive assembly, and particularly about a pivot axis which is parallel to a center line of the data cartridge when the data cartridge is inserted into the drive assembly. The drive assembly includes a toothed transport track engageable by the cartridge transport assembly for incremental pivotal motion of the cartridge transport assembly about the pivot axis. The library also has a wall connected to the library frame, the wall having a series of windows formed in predetermined relationship with the cells of the magazine. The windows are used to detect a status (e.g., presence, absence, misinsertion) of the data cartridge in the magazine. In addition, the series of windows are employed for detecting a position of the cartridge transport assembly about the pivot axis. The cartridge transport assembly comprises a carriage first section and a carriage second section which is translatable relative to the carriage first section. A pair of cartridge engagement arms are mounted to the carriage second section for selectively partially inserting the data cartridge into the drive assembly. The cartridge transport assembly further includes a secondary cartridge contact member (forming part of a “flipper assembly”) which operates in response to movement of the engagement arm to moves the selected cartridge from partial insertion to full insertion into the drive. Also, the secondary cartridge contact member serves as a stop surface when the cartridge is ejected from the drive.
Abstract:
A deck is provided for a bed which is configured to support a mattress including a lower mattress section having a top surface, a bottom surface, and a side wall, and an upper mattress section having a top surface, a bottom surface, and a side wall. The deck includes an upper deck, and a lower deck coupled to the upper deck by a deck side wall so that the lower deck is spaced apart from the upper deck to define a recess of the deck. The lower deck is configured to support the lower mattress section within the recess of the deck with the bottom surface of the lower mattress section engaging the lower deck. The side wall of the deck is configured to be located adjacent the side wall of the lower mattress section. The top surface of the lower mattress section is aligned generally in a plane of the upper deck. The upper deck is configured to support the upper mattress section with the top surface of the upper mattress section extending above the upper deck to provide a body support surface. The bottom surface of the upper mattress section engages the upper deck.
Abstract:
A precoat filter element for a precoat filter unit comprises a flow distributor and flow straightener. The flow distributor surrounds a filter septum and has openings through which liquid may flow. The proportion between the area of openings and the area of a wall of the flow distributor may vary along the length of the septum to distribute flow over the length of the filter septum in a predetermined manner. A flow straightener is provided at the base of the septum to reduce turbulence during precoat and filtration operations, and to reduce the occurrence of large flocs in precoat slurries during coating operations.
Abstract:
The disclosure described a pressurized fluid container comprising a fluid vessel, a sheath arrangement which may be fitted around the fluid vessel, and a mechanism for tightening the sheath around the fluid vessel. The disclosure also describes a filter assembly comprising a filter cartridge and sheath arrangement for supporting the filter cartridge against the pressure of a fluid flowing through the filter cartridge. The filter cartridge comprises an impervious shell, two end caps, and a porous filter unit. The shell has first and second ends, and the first and second end caps are respectively mounted at or near the first and second ends of the shell. At least one of the end caps may be slid along the shell and engages the shell to form a seal. The porous filter unit is positioned within the shell and has a first surface and a second surface. The filter cartridge further comprises an inlet structure containing an aperture which communicates with the first surface of the filter unit and an outlet structure containing an aperture which communicates with the second surface of the filter unit. The sheath arrangement includes a casing positioned within the shell and having first and second ends, first and second end restraints respectively mounted at or near the first and second ends of the casing, and a mechanism for fixing the first and second end restraints to the casing.
Abstract:
A coalescing filter capable of removing liquid aerosols (such as water and oil) from gaseous streams with high efficiency. The filter comprises three layers, (a) an intermediate fibrous layer having a pore size of from about 1.25(t) to about 2(t), where t is the dynamic film thickness of the aerosol in the gaseous stream, the fibers of the intermediate fibrous layer having diameters ranging from about 0.1 to about 20 micrometers, (b) a fibrous layer upstream of the intermediate layer having a pore size greater than the intermediate layer, and (c) a downstream fibrous layer having a pore size greater than the intermediate layer and wherein the critical surface energy of each layer of the filter is less than the surface tension of the liquid making up the aerosol.
Abstract:
A method of making a succession of food or beverage containers each comprising a vessel having a mouth surrounded by a rim presenting an upper surface of plastics material. The method comprises filling each vessel in turn and feeding over the vessel a continuous composite web of lidding material produced by forming spaced apart perforations, each comprising at least one through hole, in a continuous first web of diaphragm material having a plastics surface weldable to the vessel rim. The method also comprises forming spaced apart pull tabs in a continuous second web of peel strip material by folding each of a succession of portions of the second web against itself to form each pull tab and subsequently applying and peelably securing the second web which is narrower than the first web to the first web so as to obturate the perforations such that one pull tab is situated adjacent each perforation and remains secured to the second web only at a junction on its one end. Moreover, the method comprises cutting a lid from the web and securing the lid by an endless peripheral weld to the upper surface of the rim thereby closing the vessel.
Abstract:
A multiple cartridge filter assembly is provided with a removable filter array to facilitate the rapid replacement of an entire array having spent cartridges with another identical array having fresh cartridges, after which the spent cartridges of the removed array may be replaced. The removable filter array includes a separation plate from which the filter cartridges hang suspended in sealing engagement therewith and a dual position support platform connected to the separation plate and located beneath the lower blind ends of the cartridges. The support platform maintains the cartridges sealingly engaged with the separation plate when the removable array is in its working condition but automatically drops down relative to the separation plate when the array is removed to accommodate the replacement of the cartridges. In the preferred practice of the invention the movement of the support platform relative to the separation plate is limited to that which permits removal of the filter cartridges at an angle but not vertically.
