    摘要: An on-board evaporative emission leak detection system has a module for detecting leakage from an evaporative emission space of a fuel system of an automotive vehicle. Interior space of the module's enclosure is communicated to atmosphere. A pump is disposed within space and has an inlet communicated to the interior space and a flow passage at its outlet to allow the pump to create pressure in the evaporative emission space suitable for performance of a leak test. A vent valve is disposed within space and is selectively operable to vent and not vent the flow passage to space. An electromagnet actuator has a single electric coil that operates both the pump and the vent valve by cantilever-mounted armatures responsive to electric control current in the coil having a first current component for controlling the pump and a second current component for controlling the vent valve.

    摘要: An on-board diagnostic system for an evaporative emission control system of an internal combustion engine powered vehicle employs a positive displacement reciprocating pump to create in evaporative emission space a pressure that differs significantly from ambient atmospheric pressure. The pump is powered by using engine intake manifold vacuum to force an intake stroke during which both an internal spring is increasingly compressed and a charge of ambient atmospheric air is created in an air pumping chamber space. Vacuum is then removed, and the spring relaxes to force a compression stroke wherein a portion of the air charge is forced into the evaporative emission space. The pump operation is under the control of a computer that contains an algorithm for operating the pump in particular modes of operation to arrive at a decision concerning integrity of the evaporative emission space against leakage.

    摘要: A module for an on-board evaporative emission leak detection system that detects leakage from an evaporative emission space of an automotive vehicle fuel system. A pump disposed within interior space of the module has an inlet in communication with the interior space and a flow passage through which the evaporative emission space is pressurized by the pump. A vent valve within the interior space is selectively operable to a first state that vents the flow passage to the interior space of the module and to a second state that does not vent the flow passage to the interior space. An electromechanical actuator within the interior space operates both the pump and the vent valve. The actuator has an electromagnet coil disposed on the middle leg of an E-shaped core comprising a stack of ferromagnetic laminations. A first magnetically responsive lever for operating the pump is mounted for pivotal motion about a first pivot axis proximate a distal end of one of the outer legs of the core, and a second magnetically responsive lever for operating the vent valve is mounted for pivotal motion about a second pivot axis that is disposed proximate a distal end of the other outer leg of the core.

    摘要: Differential flow sensing through respective flow path portions of a system for detecting leakage from an evaporative emission control system. A series flow path comprises a first flow sensor for sensing the entire output flow of an impeller pump used to positively pressurized the system under test, a second sensor in a portion of the series flow path that is downstream of the first flow sensor, and a calibrated orifice downstream of the second flow sensor. A branch circuit to the evaporative emission space under leakage test tees into the aforementioned series circuit between the first flow sensor and the second flow sensor. A differential amplifier receives signal from the respective sensors. Any difference in sensed flows, once the pressure has been brought to a predetermined pressure, is output by the differential amplifier to signify leakage in an amount correlated with the sensed difference in the flows.
