    摘要: A vapor management system (10) includes a fuel tank (12), a canister (14), a pressure control valve (16) between the tank and canister and defining a high pressure side (34) and a low pressure side (32), a vacuum source (18), a purge valve (19) between the canister and vacuum source, a leak detection valve (20) connected with the canister and including a processor (30). A pressure sensor (24) and a temperature sensor (26) are disposed in a fuel vapor cavity of the fuel tank, with signals from the sensors being received by the processor. Based on an absolute temperature measured by the temperature sensor, the processor compares a predicted pressure in the fuel tank to the measured absolute pressure, and identifies a leak on the high pressure side if the predicted pressure is outside a tolerance range, while maintaining pressure in the fuel tank.

    摘要: A pressure management apparatus (10) includes a housing (30) defining a fluid communication passage between first and second fluid ports (46, 48). A poppet (40) is disposed in the housing and is movable between first and second positions. The first position prevents fluid communication between the first and second ports and the second position permits fluid communication between the first and second ports. The poppet includes a structure (75) translatable along an axis relative to the housing. At least a portion of the structure includes a permanent magnet (72). A member (78) is fixed with respect to the housing and is associated with the structure. At least a portion of the member is of ferrous material such that the magnet is attracted to the member so that at least a portion of the poppet frictionally engages the member to create a dashpot damping of resonance of the poppet in the second position.

    摘要: A leak test system and method for a motor vehicle fuel system. A pump forces air under pressure into vapor containment space. The pump operates in accordance with steps established by a processor. The pump creates superatmospheric target pressure in the space during an initial charging phase step, and after completion of that step, the pump is duty-cycled to regulate pressure in the space at the target pressure. A duty cycle comprises a burst of individual air pulses, one after another. The processor processes data corresponding to the duty cycle using P-I-D operations to set the number of pulses in a succeeding burst for regulating the pressure. When stability of the duty cycle is attained, the period of the duty cycle indicates leakage from the space.

    摘要: A leak detection system for detecting leakage from a portion of a vapor confinement space which is upstream of an inlet of a canister purge valve relative to an engine. During a test, an electric-motor-operated air pump pumps atmospheric air through a flowpath providing communication between the pump and the vapor confinement space. A flowmeter has a thermistor in the flowpath. The thermistor has a predetermined temperature vs. electric current characteristic that enables it to provide a signal correlated to flow of air through the flowpath. An electric circuit supplies and measures the electric current drawn by the thermistor to create a signal representative of the pumped airflow. The test is conducted in accordance with an algorithm that pre-heats the thermistor to a stable state before the pump is turned on. The pump is then turned on to create a predefined superatmospheric target pressure in the vapor confinement space. Once the target pressure is reached, the airflow measured by the flowmeter provides a leakage measurement. The pump is then shut off and the vapor space vented to atmosphere through the flowmeter and pump. The thermistor current draw is once again measured to detect any drift in its characteristic.

    摘要: A leak detection method for an on-board evaporative emission leak detection system that detects leakage from an evaporative emission space of a fuel system of an automotive vehicle. During a leak detection test, a vent valve closes, and a purge valve, that selectively communicates the evaporative emission space with the engine intake manifold, opens to cause vacuum to be drawn in the evaporative emission space. A vacuum regulator valve regulates evaporative emission space vacuum to a defined vacuum. Subsequently, the purge valve closes. Loss of vacuum, indicative of leakage, is signaled by a pressure sensor. An algorithm detects a substantially constant rate of vacuum loss and then measures the amount of loss over a defined time interval. That measurement is then compensated for volume of the evaporative emission space and rate of fuel volatilization to arrive at a value forming a basis for making a leakage determination.
