Abstract: Disclosed herein are various implementations of communications connectors. In some implementations, a communications plug may include a housing and a body positioned in the housing. A flexible printed circuit board (PCB) may be wrapped at least partially around the body, a and a plurality of metal contact pads may be positioned on the flexible PCB to mate with plug interface contacts (PICs) of a communications jack when the communications plug is inserted into the communications jack.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are various communications systems allowing for multiple contacts points between plug contacts in a communications plug and plug interface contacts (PICs) in a communications jack. In some disclosed implementations, a communications plug including a first and a second plug contact mated with a communications jack having a first and a second plug PIC may form a plurality of plug/jack interfaces. The plug/jack interfaces may form multiple current paths between the communications plug and the communications jack. When a signal propagates between the communications plug and the communications jack, it may be split in the communications plug between a first current path and a second current path, and recombined in the communications jack after traveling through the plurality of plug/jack interfaces.

Abstract: A communications cable having a plurality of twisted pairs of conductors and various embodiments of a metal foil tapes between the twisted pairs and a cable jacket is disclosed. In some embodiments, a metal foil tape includes a discontinuous metal layer and a polymer layer bonded to the metal layer. Portions of the metal layer and the polymer layer are deformed to form a plurality of dimples, the dimples forming air gaps between the polymer layer and the cable core or a barrier layer if used. The air gaps lower the overall dielectric constant between the metal layer and the cable core, thereby lowering the alien capacitance of the communications cable.

Abstract: A communications cable has a cable core with a plurality of twisted pairs of conductors and a metal foil tape disposed between the cable core and a jacket of the communications cable. The metal foil tape has a plurality of cuts that create a plurality of discontinuous regions in a metal layer of the metal foil tape. The metal foil tape is wrapped around the cable core such that the discontinuous regions overlap to form a plurality of overlapping regions. The overlapping regions producing capacitances connected in series, reducing an overall capacitance between the overlapping discontinuous regions. The plurality of cuts form a Y-shape cut having a first straight cut starting at one side of the metal foil tape and two cuts branching off of the first straight cut at opposite angles near a second side of the metal foil tape.

The termination sled may include a printed circuit board (PCB) having a front section, a rear section, and a connecting section connecting the front section and the rear section. In some implementations, a communications cord may include a communications plug having a conductive shell and PCB assembly. The PCB assembly may include a PCB, front and rear load bars, and a shielded divider.

Abstract: The present invention provides a communication jack for connecting to one of a first plug and a second plug. The jack includes a housing, plug interface contacts, and coupling circuitry. The plug interface contacts are at least partially within said housing and include a plurality of contact pairs having at least a first contact pair and a second contact pair. The coupling circuitry is configured for engaging said first contact pair and said second contact pair when said first plug is inserted into said housing. The coupling circuitry is configured for disengaging from said first contact pair and said second contact pair when said second plug is inserted into said housing.

Abstract: An active patch panel uses small form factor plus (SFP+) connectivity with a plurality of channels extending between first and second faces of the panel. The channels connect ports on the opposing faces of the panel and are provided with additional electronic elements, such as an equalizer, a clock data recovery element, and a pre-emphasis element. A controller can be connected to the plurality of channels to provide instructions for simultaneous equalization and pre-emphasis of a plurality of cable assemblies in the same channel.
