    Abstract: In this invention, we disclose methods for enabling ad hoc cellular base station functionality within a user equipment when the connection quality between a base station and the user equipment is limited or nonexistent. These methods include measuring a connection quality between a user equipment and its serving base station. If the connection quality is below a threshold, the user equipment can enable its internal ad hoc cellular base station functionality. This is done by running a software within the user equipment that (a) checks the connection quality periodically, and (b) enables ad hoc cellular base station functionality of the connection threshold dips below a certain value. In one embodiment, that threshold could be the same threshold value that a user equipment would use if it were making a decision to handoff to another base station based on poor connection quality.

    Abstract: A method may be disclosed in accordance with some embodiments, comprising: receiving, at a virtualizing gateway, a first service request from a first user equipment (UE) via a first eNodeB; creating, at the virtualizing gateway, an association from each of a plurality of UE identifiers to a desired core network; applying, at the virtualizing gateway, a first filter using a first UE identifier of the first UE, based on the association; forwarding, at the virtualizing gateway, based on the applied first filter, the first service request from the first UE to the first core network; receiving, at the virtualizing gateway, via a second base station, a second service request from a second user equipment (UE); applying, at the virtualizing gateway, a second filter using a second UE identifier of the second UE, based on the association; and forwarding, at the virtualizing gateway, based on the applied second filter, the second service request from the second UE to the second core network.

    Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for a local evolved packet core (EPC) that interoperates with an eNodeB and a remote EPC. In one embodiment, a method for establishing an ad hoc local network may be disclosed, comprising: monitoring an availability of a connection to a remote core network; creating a first data connection between a first mobile device and a local core network module, thereby permitting a first mobile device to attach to a local network base station without connectivity to the remote core network; identifying, at a local core network module, reconnection to the remote core network; sending, from the local core network module to the remote core network, a service request message based on a prior message received from the first mobile device at the local core network module; creating a second data connection between the local network base station and the remote core network; and forwarding downlink data, received from the remote core network via at the second data connection, to the first mobile device via the first data connection.

    Abstract: Systems and methods for performing handover coordination between base stations are disclosed. In a first embodiment, a method is disclosed, comprising: receiving, at a base station, a first serving cell signal measurement and a first neighbor cell signal measurement from a particular user equipment (UE); sending an adjustment message, from the base station to the UE, containing a cell-specific offset of the serving cell and a cell-specific offset of the neighbor cell in a reporting threshold based on at least one handover adjustment factor received from a coordinating node; receiving, at the base station and subsequent to adjusting the cell-specific offsets, a second serving cell signal measurement and a second neighbor cell signal measurement; and deciding whether to trigger a handover event based on the first and the second serving cell signal measurement and the first and the second neighbor cell signal measurement and the cell-specific offsets.

    Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for a CDMA base station management gateway for integrating CDMA into an LTE Evolved Packet Core (EPC) core network.     Abstract: A gateway situated between the RAN and the core network may provide 2G/3G/4G/Wi-Fi convergence for nodes in a network on a plurality of radio access technologies. In some embodiments, a convergence gateway is described that allows for legacy radio access network functions to be provided by all-IP core network nodes. A multi-RAT gateway provides 2G/3G Iuh to IuPS interworking, IuCS to VoLTE interworking via a VoLTE proxy, IuPS and 4G data local breakout or S1-U interworking, and 2G A/IP and Gb/IP to VoLTE and S1-U/local breakout interworking. The multi-RAT gateway may thereby support all voice calls via VoLTE, and all data over S1 or local breakout, including VoLTE. The multi-RAT gateway may provide self-organizing network (SON) capabilities for all RATs. A multi-RAT base station may provide 2G and 3G front-end interworking to Iuh.

    Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed to address inter-cell interference in a heterogeneous network.
