    摘要: A light pattern controller generates a pattern of continuous wave, modulated and/or pulsed light onto a face of a collimating element. The light beam is collimated by the collimating element and extends to a focusing element which focuses the collimated light onto an illumination field. A controller controls the light pattern controller or the light source to determine a shape of the pattern on the face of the collimating element. The illumination field is imaged by an electronic or digital camera having first and second fields. Each field captures an image by integrating light received from the illumination field over an integration period. The controller controls the light pattern controller and the light source, and/or the camera to ensure an even amount of illumination from each element of the light pattern focused on the illumination field is integrated by each field of the camera. The controller also controls the frequency, phase angle and pulse width of the light source.

    摘要: A light pattern controller provides a pattern of light to a collimator. The light pattern controller includes a beam deflector that sweeps a circular pattern with a radius that is directly proportional to the rotational speed of the beam deflector. Alternatively, the light pattern controller includes a two-dimensional scanning galvanometer that sweeps out the circular pattern or a liquid crystal shutter. The pattern of light is collimated and reflected such that it is substantially parallel to the optical axis of an imaging system. A focusing element redirects the collimated light pattern onto a sample part at an angle of incidence which is a function of the radius of the light column.

    摘要: A fast variable angle of incidence illumination configuration for a machine vision inspection system, including: a light source that directs a beam along a first optical path portion; a beam steering arrangement that receives the beam and steers it along a second optical path portion; and a beam deflecting arrangement including a plurality of surface portions arranged at respective angles of incidence to receive the beam and deflect it along a third optical path portion to a field of view. The beam steering arrangement includes different surfaces that provide either narrow or wide divergence of the beam toward the deflecting arrangement. The illumination configuration allows for fast adjustment of not only the illumination angle of incidence but also the range of angles (narrow or wide) about the nominal angle. The illumination configuration is particularly suitable for use with light provided by a high-intensity remote light source.

    摘要: A plurality of systems and methods for generating reproducible illumination by adjusting solid-state devices regulated by a control system that illuminate sample parts in a compensated, standardized manner. An illumination system includes an illumination source directed onto the optical axis of a light collection system. The light collection system includes a collection lens assembly and at least one CCD detector. The lens assembly and CCD detector perform the spatial imaging of the sample part. An optical element positioned between the illumination source and the sample part redirects a portion of the entire energy emitted from the illumination source to a monitoring detector. The monitoring detector measures the optical power illuminating the sample part and compares it to a previously measured reference illumination source level. Based on the results of the comparison and additional input from temperature, color and other sensor, the drive current to the illuminating source is adjusted to consistently illuminate the sample part within an instrument model line and over an extended time period.

    摘要: Methods and apparatus for detecting biological activities in a specimen such as blood are disclosed. The present invention provides a system whereby the intensity of light with a wavelength within the range of about 600 nm to 800 nm introduced into a sample at a first location is measured as it reemerges at a second location. A significant change in the intensity of the reemerging light indicates the presence of biological activity. Preferably, the intensity is also measured at a fourth location, or alternatively, a second light source is disposed at a third location to permit comparative intensity data to be collected. These data are useful in partially identifying the types of microorganisms present in the sample. In preferred embodiments, light emitting diodes are used as the light sources and multiplexed to a plurality of samples. These signals are either detected using photodetectors and demultiplexed, or are collected using fiber-optic light guides and fed to a photomultiplier tube which generates an intensity signal. In either embodiment, the intensity signal is preferably amplified, digitized and stored in a computer.
