    摘要: The anionic polymerization of unsaturated monomers with functionalized initiators having the structure R.sup.1 R.sup.2 R.sup.3 Si--O--A'--Li is improved by selecting A' from the structures --CH.sub.2 --CH.sub.2 --CH.sub.2 --(1,3-propyl), --CH.sub.2 --CH(CH.sub.3)--CH.sub.2 --(2-methyl-1,3-propyl), --CH.sub.2 --C(CH.sub.3).sub.2 --CH.sub.2 --(2,2-dimethyl-1,3-propyl), or --CH.sub.2 --CH.sub.2 --CH.sub.2 --CH.sub.2 --CH.sub.2 --CH.sub.2 --CH.sub.2 --CH.sub.2 --(1,8-octyl). This narrow class of polymerization initiators operate at surprisingly higher polymerization temperatures with surprisingly lower amounts of dead initiator than similar initiators wherein A' is --CH.sub.2 --CH.sub.2 --CH.sub.2 --CH.sub.2 --(1,4-butyl), --CH.sub.2 --CH.sub.2 --CH.sub.2 --CH.sub.2 --CH.sub.2 --(1,5-pentyl), or --CH.sub.2 --CH.sub.2 --CH.sub.2 --CH.sub.2 --CH.sub.2 13 CH.sub.2 --(1,6-hexyl).

    摘要: The anionic polymerization of isoprene with monolithium initiators and functionalized initiators having the structure R.sup.1 R.sup.2 R.sup.3 Si--O--A'--Li wherein R.sup.1, R.sup.2, and R.sup.3 are preferably alkyl, alkoxy, aryl, or alkaryl groups having from 1 to 10 carbon atoms, and A' is preferably a branched or straight chain bridging group having at least 2 carbon atoms produces unsaturated and hydrogenated isoprene polymers having high 1,4-addition of the isoprene, from about one to two terminal functional groups per molecule, and low viscosity.

    摘要: Disclosed is a process for coupling styrenic block copolymers comprising admixing vinyl cyclohexene dioxide with a living block copolymer comprising at least one block of polymerized vinyl aromatic hydrocarbon monomers and at least one block of polymerized conjugated diene monomers, at a molar ratio of from 0.40 to 0.60 and carrying out a coupling reaction at a temperature of at least 65° C. to produce a coupled styrenic block copolymer. Also disclosed is a polymer composition comprising at most 30% by weight of a styrenic block copolymer comprising at least one block A of polymerized vinyl aromatic monomer(s) and at least one block B of polymerized conjugated diene(s) and at least 70% by weight of the styrenic block copolymer coupled with vinyl cyclohexene dioxide.
