Abstract: A method for optimizing drilling performance is disclosed. The method includes determining, while advancing a drill bit during a drilling operation based on drilling parameters specified by a user, a rate of penetration (ROP), acquiring, using sensors disposed on drilling equipment of a well, measurement data of each drilling equipment that represents a condition of a corresponding drilling equipment at a particular ROP during the drilling operation, determining, using an artificial intelligence method based on the measurement data, a non-linear relationship between the ROP, the drilling parameters, and the conditions of the drilling equipment, identifying a constraint specified by the user based on the conditions of the drilling equipment, determining, based on the non-linear relationship and the user specified constraint, a target value of the drilling parameters to optimize a pre-determined performance measure of the drilling operation, and further performing the drilling operation based on the target value.

Abstract: Systems and methods include techniques for using smart polymers. Units of smart polymers with per-hydrogen (pH) sensitivity are inserted into drilling fluid pumped into a well during drilling. The smart polymers are configured to be triggered by hydrogen ion concentrations. An insertion timestamp associated with each unit is stored and indicates a time that each unit was inserted. Continuous images and observed characteristics of returning mud exiting through an annulus of the well and containing the units of smart polymer are captured by a camera positioned at a sensing location and linked to the monitoring system. An estimate of pH values at a drill bit of the drilling operation is determined using the continuous images, observed characteristics, and insertion timestamps, and based at least in part on executing image processing algorithms, machine-learning models, and deep-learning models. Changes to be made to drilling parameters are suggested.

Abstract: Systems and methods include techniques for using smart polymers. Units of smart polymers with heat sensitivity are inserted by a monitoring system into drilling fluid pumped into a well. The smart polymers are configured to be triggered by exposure to increasing levels of heat. An insertion timestamp associated with each unit is stored. Each insertion timestamp indicates a time that each unit was inserted. Continuous images and observed characteristics of returning mud exiting through an annulus of the well and containing the units of smart polymer are captured by a camera positioned at a sensing location and linked to the monitoring system. An estimate of temperatures at a drill bit of the drilling operation is determined using continuous images, observed characteristics, and insertion timestamps, based at least in part on executing image processing algorithms, machine-learning models, and deep-learning models. Suggested changes to be made to drilling parameters are provided.

Abstract: A rig site may include a rotary table within a rig floor above a wellbore. A fabric sheet rolled into two symmetrical rolls is disposed on the rig floor. A pre-cut center hole of the fabric sheet is coaxial with the rotary table. A casing string, to be lowered in the wellbore, includes a first casing joint at a bottom of the casing string is a modified float joint. The pre-cut center hole of the fabric sheet is attached to a sleeve of the modified float joint. Union units are provided above the rotary table. The union units close the fabric sheet around the casing string to form a fabric-nested casing string within the wellbore. A cement slurry is pumped down the casing string and into a space between the fabric sheet and the casing string to cement the fabric-nested casing string to the wellbore.

Abstract: Sealing composition for plugging and abandoning a wellbore and methods of plugging and abandoning a wellbore are disclosed. Embodiments of a method for plugging and abandoning a wellbore may include introducing a sealing composition into a wellbore and curing the sealing composition to form a plug. The sealing composition may include from 1 weight percent to 20 weight percent of a curing agent, based on the total weight of the composition, and from 20 weight percent to 97 weight percent of an epoxy resin system, based on the total weight of the composition. The epoxy resin system may include an epoxy resin having the formula (OC2H3)—CH2—O—R1—O—CH2—(C2H3O), where R1 is a linear or branched hydrocarbyl having from 4 to 24 carbon atoms; and a reactive diluent having the formula R—O—CH2—(C2H3O), where R is a hydrocarbyl having from 12 to 14 carbon atoms.
