    Abstract: The present invention is related to a process for manufacturing a security feature comprising a tactile pattern, said method comprising the steps of applying on a substrate a radiation-curable basecoat composition by a process selected from the group consisting of inkjet, offset, screen printing, flexo printing and rotogravure; at least partially or fully radiation-curing said radiation-curable basecoat composition so as to obtain a radiation-cured basecoat; applying on the radiation-cured basecoat obtained under step ii) a radiation-curable topcoat composition in a form of indicia by a process selected from the group consisting of screen printing, flexo printing and rotogravure; radiation-curing said radiation-curable topcoat composition so as to form a radiation-cured topcoat, wherein the radiation-curable basecoat composition and/or the radiation-curable topcoat composition comprises one or more machine readable feature substances independently selected from the group consisting of cholesteric liquid crystal pigments, luminescent compounds, infrared-absorbing compounds, magnetic compounds and mixtures thereof, and wherein the radiation-cured basecoat has a surface energy at least 15 mN/m less than the surface energy of the radiation-cured topcoat. The present invention is furthermore related to a corresponding security feature and it use for the protection of a security document against counterfeiting or fraud.

    Abstract: The disclosure relates to the field of the protection of security documents, such as for example banknotes and identity documents against counterfeit and illegal reproduction. In particular, the present disclosure provides processes for producing optical effect layers (OELs) on a substrate and OELs obtained thereof, said process including two magnetic orientation steps: a step of exposing a coating composition having platelet-shaped magnetic or magnetisable pigment particles to a dynamic magnetic field of a first magnetic-field-generating device so as to bi-axially orient at least a part of the platelet-shaped magnetic or magnetisable pigment particles, and a step of exposing the coating composition to a static magnetic field of a second magnetic-field-generating device, thereby mono-axially re-orienting at least a part of the platelet-shaped magnetic or magnetisable pigment particles.

    Abstract: The present invention relates to the field of the protection of value documents and value commercial goods. In particular, the invention relates to methods of making an optical effect layer (OEL) associated with a substrate, the method comprising i) providing a substrate associated with a coating composition comprising magnetic or magnetizable pigment particles; ii) providing a permanent magnet assembly producing a first magnetic field; iii) providing an electromagnet assembly including a winding assembly and drive producing an oscillating or rotating second magnetic field that interacts with the first magnetic field to spin the permanent magnet assembly to rotate the first magnetic field; and iv) applying the first magnetic field while the first magnetic field rotates by spinning of the permanent magnet assembly to aggregately orient the magnetic or magnetizable pigment particles to create the optical effect layer. The invention also relates to apparatuses for creating an OEL.
