Abstract: A semiconductor device for determining whether a foreign substance (e.g., water) is present and a method of operating the same are provided. The semiconductor device includes a receptacle including a plurality of pins according to a USB type-C receptacle interface; a first current source providing first current to a CC1 signal pin or a CC2 signal pin among the plurality of pins in a first operation mode; a second current source providing second current to the CC1 signal pin or the CC2 signal pin in a second operation mode; a third current source providing third current to at least two pins of other pins excluding the CC1 signal pin and the CC2 signal pin; and a power delivery integrated circuit (PDIC) controlling the first current source, the second current source and the third current source and detecting the voltage level of a signal outputted to the plurality of pins.

Abstract: An electronic device includes a housing, a display device exposed through a first part of the housing, a recess formed in a second part of the housing, a receptacle formed in the recess, a plurality of conductive contacts disposed inside the receptacle and including a first contact, a first circuit that supplies and/or receives a current of a first level or larger to and/or from the first contact when an external connector is inserted into the receptacle, a first switching device that electrically connects the first circuit with the first contact or to interrupt a connection between the first circuit and the first contact, a second circuit that detects existence of a foreign object contacting the first contact while the external connector is inserted into the receptacle and a control circuit that controls the first switching device based at least in part on information regarding the detected existence of the foreign object.

Abstract: An integrated circuit embedded in a plug of a universal serial bus (USB) 3.1 type-C cable assembly is disclosed. The integrated circuit includes a first pin connected to an operation transmission line through which an operation voltage is transmitted, a second pin connected to a configuration channel (CC) line, a first resistor connected to the first pin, a ground line, and a switching circuit configured to connect the first resistor and the ground line using a channel voltage supplied to the second pin when the operation voltage is not applied, and disconnect the first resistor from the ground line based on the operation voltage.
