Abstract: A communication device is configured to communicate with an infrastructure equipment forming part of a mobile communications network, and to communicate with one or more relay nodes of the mobile communications network. The communications device comprises a receiver configured to receive signals on the downlink from the one or more relay nodes via a first wireless interface, and to receive signals on the downlink from the infrastructure equipment via second wireless access interface, a transmitter configured to transmit signals on the uplink to the one or more relay nodes via the first wireless access interface, and to transmit signals on the uplink to the infrastructure equipment via the second wireless access interface, and a controller configured to control the receiver to receive the signals and to control the transmitter to transmit the signals.

Abstract: A method for controlling a connection procedure for a terminal device requesting a radio connection to a cell supported by network infrastructure equipment in a wireless telecommunication system, the method comprising: determining, at the terminal device, that a request to connect to the cell supported by the network infrastructure equipment is to be made, establishing, at the terminal device, application information relating to an operating context for the terminal device; transmitting a connection request message from the terminal device to the network infrastructure equipment, wherein the connection request message comprises a request for the terminal device to connect to the cell and an indication of the application information; and determining, at the network infrastructure equipment, whether to allow the request for the terminal device to connect to the cell based, at least in part, on the application information received by the network infrastructure equipment from the terminal device.

Abstract: A method of operating first and second terminal devices for transmitting data in a device-to-device communication mode in a wireless telecommunications system supporting communications on a first carrier operating over a first frequency band and a second carrier operating over a second frequency band. The first terminal device transmits control signalling on the first carrier and this is received by the second terminal device. The control signalling comprises an indication of an allocation of radio resource blocks on the second carrier to be used for transmitting user-plane data from the first terminal device to the second terminal device. The first terminal device then proceeds to transmit the user-plane data to the second terminal device on the second carrier using the radio resource blocks on the second carrier identified by the control signalling. The control signalling may also provide an indication of an allocation of radio resource blocks on the first carrier to be used for transmitting user-plane data to the second terminal device.

Abstract: A method of operating a terminal device in a wireless telecommunications system is disclosed. The terminal device is configured to selectively switch between an active operating mode and a reduced-power operating mode. The method comprises communicating with a network entity to exchange a block of data between the terminal device and the network entity while the terminal device is in the active operating mode. The method further comprises determining when communications associated with the exchange of the block of data are complete, and in response to determining communications associated with the exchange of the block of data are complete, switching from the active operating mode to the reduced-power operating mode.

Abstract: A communications device configured to transmit/receive signals to/from an infrastructure equipment of a mobile communications network includes a receiver, a transmitter, and a controller. The communications device is configured to: receive from a mobile communications network an indication listing narrowband carriers provided by one or more infrastructure equipment forming one or more cells of the mobile communications network, and an indication of type of the narrowband carriers; to measure a strength of signals received from each of the narrowband carriers, to select one of the narrowband carriers based on the type and a value of the measured strength of the signals received from the narrowband carriers, and to transmit signals to the infrastructure equipment providing the selected narrowband carrier to inform the mobile communications network that the communications device can receive data from the mobile communications network via the selected narrowband carrier to reduce an uplink transmission power.

Abstract: A communications terminal includes a transmitter configured to transmit signals via a wireless access interface to infrastructure equipment and to one or more of other communications terminals with a device-to-device communications protocol, a receiver configured to receive signals via the wireless access interface from the infrastructure equipment and from one or more of the other communications terminals with a device-to-device communications protocol, and a controller configured to control the transmitter and receiver to transmit and to receive data via the wireless access interface when in a connected mode and to select one of the one or more infrastructure equipment from which to receive paging messages for down-link communications when in an idle mode. The controller can enter a DRX-connected mode to control the receiver to only monitor a communications terminal acting as a relay node to determine whether the receiver can no longer receive paging messages from that communications terminal.

Abstract: A communications device can identify one or more sections of plural predetermined sections, divided into time-units, of shared communications resources of a wireless access interface for transmitting data signals to one or more other communications device. The communications device detects whether another of the one or more communications devices are transmitting signals in one or more of the identified sections of the shared communications resources in at least one time divided unit, and if signals transmitted by another of the communications devices are not detected, the device transmits signals in the identified one or more predetermined sections of the shared communications resources for at least one of the time divided units, and then, after a collision avoidance time, detects for at least one subsequent time unit whether another of the one or more communications devices transmits signals in one or more of the identified sections of the shared communications resources.
