Abstract: A communications device for use in a wireless communications system comprising an infrastructure equipment, a location server, a contents server and the communications device is provided. The communications device comprises transceiver circuitry and controller circuitry. The transceiver circuitry and controller circuitry are configured in combination to receive assistance information comprising a communication trigger from the location server via the infrastructure equipment, to estimate a current geographical location of the communications device, and to select, dependent on the current geographical location of the communications device and/or on the communication trigger, one of a plurality of wireless communications technologies to be used by the communications device for communication.

Abstract: A method of operating a terminal device supporting a plurality of positioning techniques which use positioning measurements made by the terminal device and positioning assistance information received from a location server to determine the location of the terminal device. The method includes: establishing a target location; selecting a first positioning technique for navigating towards the target location; receiving first positioning assistance information from the location server for the first positioning technique; determining a first location of the terminal device in accordance with the first positioning technique and the first positioning assistance information; establishing a first trigger for using a second positioning technique which is associated with higher positioning accuracy than the first positioning technique; and, in response to determining the first trigger is satisfied, determining a second location of the terminal device in accordance with the second positioning technique and second positioning assistance information received from the location server.

Abstract: A method of operating a terminal device in a wireless telecommunications system is disclosed. The terminal device is configured to selectively switch between an active operating mode and a reduced-power operating mode. The method comprises communicating with a network entity to exchange a block of data between the terminal device and the network entity while the terminal device is in the active operating mode. The method further comprises determining when communications associated with the exchange of the block of data are complete, and in response to determining communications associated with the exchange of the block of data are complete, switching from the active operating mode to the reduced-power operating mode.

Abstract: A terminal device is configured to detect a failure in communicating the position assistance information, such as a failure to decrypt or an integrity protection decoding failure, and in response to detecting the failure in communicating the position assistance information to perform a position assistance information failure procedure. In one example embodiment the position assistance information failure procedure includes transmitting a message indicating the failure to the infrastructure equipment. In another example the position assistance information failure procedure includes adapting one or more communications parameters in order to recover the reception of the position assistance information.

Abstract: A method of evaluating whether to handover a terminal device from communicating with a first network infrastructure element associated with a first communication cell to communicating with a second network infrastructure element associated with a second communication cell in a wireless telecommunications system. The method includes establishing an indication of radio conditions associated with a path between the terminal device and the first network infrastructure element; and establishing an indication of a second measurement of radio conditions associated with a communication path between the terminal device and the second network infrastructure element; and determining whether to handover the terminal device from communicating with the first network infrastructure element to the second network infrastructure element based on a comparison of the indication of the first measurement of radio conditions and the indication of the second measurement of radio conditions.

Abstract: A method of allocating resources in a mobile telecommunications system, the resources being for a relay node to operate as a terminal-to-terminal relay for a device-to-device communication between a first terminal and a second terminal. The method includes: allocating first resources for the first terminal to communicate via the relay node for the device-to-device communication; allocating second resources for the second terminal to communicate via the relay node for the device-to-device communication; notifying the first terminal of the allocated first resources; notifying the second terminal of the allocated second resources; and the first and second terminals exchanging messages for the device-to-device communication via the relay node and using the first and second resources, respectively.
