A method for purifying 3-methacryloxypropyldimethylhalosilanes or 3-methacryloxypropylmethyldihalosilanes which is characterized by the fact that 1-methyl-2-methacryloxyethyldimethylhalosilanes or 1-methyl-2-methacryloxyethylmethyldihalosilanes contained in products or fractions consisting of 3-methacryloxypropyldimethylhalosilanes or 3-methacryloxypropylmethyldihalosilanes produced by a hydrosilation reaction of allyl methacrylate with dimethylhalosilanes or methyldihalosilanes are decomposed by means of a metal halide which shows the properties of a Lewis acid, after which these compounds are subjected to fractional distillation.

A curable composition, comprising a siloxane grafted vinyl polymer as its main component, reacts with an organic silicon compound having silicon-bonded hydrogen atoms in the presence of a hydrosilylation catalyst to form a peelable cured coating film. A method to make high-purity acryloxy- or methacryloxy-functional organosilicon compounds in high yields by inhibiting gelation of the reaction product during preparation. The method comprises (A) reacting an acrylate or methacrylate ester of an alcohol comprising an aliphatically unsaturated bond or a phenol comprising an aliphatically unsaturated bond with a (B) SiH-functional silicon compound in the presence of (C) a hydrosilylation reaction catalyst and (D) a polymerization inhibitor described by formula ##STR1## where n is 0 or 1; M is an atom selected from the group consisting of N, P, As, Sb, O, S, Se, Sn, and I; R is a monovalent hydrocarbon group or hydrogen atom; m is 1, 2, or 3; and X is a conjugate base of an organic acid or inorganic acid. The present method can further comprise distillation of the reaction mixture resulting from the reaction of component (A) and (B) in the presence of component (D).

This invention provides method for the preparation of carbinol-modified organopolysiloxane which does not suffer from the secondary reaction problems of the art and which thereby makes possible the production of high-purity carbinol-containing organopolysiloxane.The method involves a platinum-catalyzed addition reaction of an organopolysiloxane having at least 1 silicon-bonded hydrogen atom in each molecule and an organic compound whose molecule contains at least 1 aliphatically unsaturated hydrocarbon group and at least 1 triorganosilyl-blocked carbinol group. Thereafter a desilylation reaction on the organopolysiloxane product is accomplished in an essentially water-free mixture of organic carboxylic acid and alcohol to provide carbinol-modified organopolysiloxane.

The instant invention pertains to a high-productivity. high-yield method for the preparation of acryloxy group-containing or methacryloxy group-containing organosilicon compounds. The method of the instant invention comprises an addition reaction, in the presence of a hydrosilylation-reaction catalyst, between (A) an ester of acrylic acid with aliphatic ally unsaturated alcohol or aliphatically unsaturated phenol; or (B) an ester of methacrylic acid with aliphatically unsaturated alcohol or aliphatically unsaturated phenol; and (C) a silicon compound that contains silicon-bonded hydrogen and by then distilling the reaction mixture in the presence of a metal halide.

A polyimide resin is prepared by reaction of a tetracarboxylic dianhydride with a specified class of amino functional organosilicon compounds followed by cycloimidization of the resultant polyamide acid intermediate. The resin is characterized by an excellent adhesion to various types of inorganic substrates such as glass. The present method employs relatively low temperatures for the cycloimidization reaction.
