摘要:
A dielectric waveguide designed to avoid the influence of reflection of electromagnetic waves at connected portions of dielectric strips and to have an improved characteristic. A third dielectric strip is inserted in a part of a connection section at which a first dielectric strip and a second dielectric strip are connected to each other, and the distances between the three connection planes in said connection section are determined so that a wave reflected at the connection plane between the first and third dielectric strips, a wave reflected at the connection plane between the first and second dielectric strips, and a wave reflected at the connection plane between the second and third dielectric strips are superposed with a phase difference of 2&pgr;/3 from each other. Alternatively or in addition, the distance between the first-second dielectric strip connection plane and the first-third dielectric strip connection plane is set to ⅙ of the guide wavelength of an electromagnetic wave propagating through the dielectric strips, and the distance between the first-second dielectric strip connection plane and the second-third dielectric strip connection plane is set to ⅙ of the guide wavelength. Reflected waves are thereby superposed in phase opposition to each other to cancel out. In this manner, propagation of a reflected signal to ports is limited.

In a millimeter wave module or the like having both a normal NRD guide and a hyper NRD guide, a conversion portion structure for non, radiative dielectric waveguides of different types has excellent conversion characteristics at the connection between the two types of NRD guides. In a first conversion portion, the width of a dielectric strip is changed from the width of a dielectric strip in the hyper NRD guide portion to the width of a dielectric strip in the normal NRD guide portion, grooves of approximately the same depth as grooves in the hyper NRD guide are provided extending as far as the second conversion portion, and in a third conversion portion, the width of these grooves widens perpendicular to the propagation direction of electromagnetic waves and parallel to the face of conductive plates. According to this structure, guide conversion can be achieved with low radiation in a predetermined frequency band.

A dielectric line has a conductor plate and dielectric strip on the side of a fixed portion and a dielectric line including a conductor plate and dielectric strip on the side of a moving portion. A directional coupler comprises the dielectric lines. On a dielectric plate of an array antenna portion a plurality of linear array antennas are formed and connected to a microstrip as a feed portion. By displacement of the moving portion, the feed point to the feed portion is changed and the feed phase to each linear array antenna and the feed power to each element antenna are changed. Thus, the direction of a beam is changed.

By changing the direction of a detection radio-wave beam within a detection-angle range and by detecting reflected-signal intensities, wherein each of the reflected-signal intensities is detected for each predetermined unit angle, moving averages of the reflected-signal intensities are calculated by using an angular width predetermined for a given distance as an average width. Thus, data of a reflected-signal-intensity distribution is obtained. Accordingly, the direction of a target is detected by finding the direction of the highest reflected-signal intensity.

On one surface of a dielectric substrate having a thickness of one quarter of a signal wavelength, a ground electrode, and a strip line, one end thereof being connected to a high-frequency element via a wire, are formed. On the opposite surface thereof, which opposes a waveguide, a ground electrode is formed, a first electrode opening having a predetermined length and width is formed, opposite to a proximity of an open end of the strip line, and a second electrode opening is formed so that a center line of a width thereof is separated outward by one quarter of the signal wavelength from a conductor wall of the waveguide. Furthermore, via holes having a length of one quarter of the signal wavelength, electrically connecting the ground electrodes on either surface, are formed. The waveguide is disposed in proximity to the dielectric substrate so that a center of the first electrode opening coincides with that of the waveguide.

A non-radiative hybrid dielectric line transition permits a line transformation between two different types of non-radiative dielectric lines to be performed in a limited space. In addition, a non-radiative dielectric line component, an antenna apparatus, and a wireless apparatus include the above line transition. In this structure, a dielectric strip is disposed between a lower conductive plate and an upper conductive plate to form each of a hyper NRD waveguide (HNRD) and a normal NRD waveguide (NNRD). Between the two waveguides, grooves whose depths gradually become shallow from the HNRD to the NNRD are formed for receiving a third non-radiative dielectric line for performing a line transformation.
