The power amplifier circuit incorporates a lossy modulator that functions as a variable resistance responsive to an amplitude modulation signal. A supply voltage is coupled to the voltage supply input of the power amplifier circuit through the lossy modulator, such that the supply voltage applied to the power amplifier varies with the amplitude modulation signal. The radio frequency power amplifier circuit modulates the envelope of an RF output signal generated by saturated mode amplification of a constant envelope radio frequency input signal.

    摘要: An apparatus and method for creating an amplifier input waveform based on received phase and amplitude information from an input signal. The apparatus includes a first switch receiving phase information from a primary waveform and a second switch in communication with the first switch and the input. The second switch receives amplitude information from the primary waveform and receives the phase information from the first switch and uses the amplitude information to modulate the phase information. A secondary waveform is thus created for input to the amplifier load matching network. In this way, an amplitude modulated waveform is amplified at high efficiency, enabling application of either all or part of the phase and/or amplitude modulation at the input of the amplifier.

A power amplifier receives the RF input signal and amplifies the RF input signal to develop an RF output signal. The amplifier control includes a memory for storing correction information correlating desired amplitude of the RF output signal relative to actual amplifier amplitude, and a control varies power amplifier supply voltage responsive to the correction information to linearize amplitude modulation in the power amplifier.

The cellular telephone GPS receiver uses the auxiliary information to determine the location of the cellular telephone and transmits location information to the cellular telephone network via the cellular telephone and the base station.

    摘要: A phase shift modulator at the transmitter has a control input connected to a binary signal source. A high frequency carrier signal is applied to a carrier signal input of the modulator. The modulated carrier signal is transmitted to a receiver where it is mixed with a local oscillator frequency. At the receiver, a modulated signal is amplified by a limit amplifier to form the received signal into square wave pulses of a uniform height. The demodulator detects when the spacing between the edges of the square wave signal change in response to the phase shift modulation at the transmitter. When the spacing between the edges of the square wave IF signal is detected to be shorter than the normal spacing for a steady IF signal with no modulation, this signifies a first binary value. A longer than normal spacing between the edges of the square wave IF signal signifies a second binary value. Frequency drift compensation circuits are disclosed to overcome frequency variations in the carrier and the local oscillator.

    摘要: An apparatus and a method for detecting a carrier signal of a phase shift keyed modulated signal. A first counter circuit generates a plurality of counts, with each count being a number of cycles of a reference frequency signal occurring between two consecutive rising edges of an intermediate frequency signal. A comparison circuit compares a first count of reference frequency cycles to a second count of reference frequency cycles when a difference between an initial count of reference frequency cycles and a first predetermined number is less than a second predetermined number. The first predetermined number represents a time period of one cycle of the nominal center frequency, and the first count and the second count respectively represent time periods of first and second cycles of a pair of consecutive cycles of the intermediate frequency signal. The comparison circuit generates a difference signal when a difference between the first count and the second count is less than a third predetermined number. A second counter circuit counts cycles of the intermediate frequency signal and generates a carrier detect signal when a count of the intermediate frequency signal cycles equals a fourth predetermined number.

    摘要: Methods and apparatus for processing received signals in a multi-carrier system are disclosed. An exemplary method includes estimating one or more first propagation channel coefficients based on a training sequence in each of one or more first slots received over a first radio channel, equalizing signal samples from one or more second slots received over a second radio channel immediately frequency-adjacent to the first radio channel, using the first propagation channel coefficients, and demodulating user data bits from the equalized signal samples. In some embodiments, the training sequence is located at a fixed position in each of the one or more first slots and user data bits are demodulated from a directly corresponding position in each of the second slots. Improved data rates are thus achieved by constraining radio carriers in a multi-carrier system to frequency-adjacent channels and eliminating training symbols from one of the signals.
