After cooling, components of even very different density and morphology result inseparable. A class of metallocene compounds having two substituted cyclopentadienyl rings bridged by an alkylidene group wherein the cyclopentadienyl groups can be indenyl groups. The metallocene compounds have the following structures: ##STR1## The metallocenes are characterized by three principal features: (i) the cyclopentadienyl groups are substituted at the 3-position with a substituent other than hydrogen, while R.sup.2 in the 2-position bears a hydrogen (formula (I)) or is part of a condensed benzene ring (formula (II)); (ii) the bridge is a substituted-methylene bridge, i.e. a methylene group bearing at least one substituent other than hydrogen (R.sup.6 is always different from hydrogen); and (iii) the cyclopentadienyl groups are identically substituted (page 2, line 23). These metallocene compounds can be suitably used as catalyst components for the polymerization of olefins. In particular, by polymerizing propylene in the presence of a catalyst based on these metallocene compounds, polymers having very high isotactic indexes, high molecular weights, and narrow molecular weight distributions can be obtained in high yields. A process for preparing the metallocenes from the corresponding organic ligands is also disclosed.

Embossed sheets having improved grain retention can be made from a polyolefin composition containing a propylene polymer material and a partially crosslinked thermoplastic olefin elastomer composition that includes (1) 20-80 parts by weight of a thermoplastic elastomer containing (a) from 20 to 70% of a propylene homopolymer having an isotactic index greater than 90, or a crystalline propylene copolymer with ethylene and/or a 4-8 C alpha-olefin having a polymerized propylene content greater than 85% and an isotactic index of greater than 85%; (b) from 30 to 75% of an amorphous ethylene-propylene or ethylene-butane-1 copolymer, which is xylene soluble at room temperature and contains from 30 to 70% polymerized ethylene, and (c) from 3 to 30% of a semi-crystalline ethylene-propylene or ethylene-butene-1 copolymer that is xylene insoluble at room temperature and contains greater than 90% polymerized ethylene, and (2) 80-20 parts by weight of an ethylene/propylene/diene terpolymer rubber containing 1 to 10% of a polymerized diene and 30 to 70% polymerized ethylene. Large parts such as automobile door and instrument panels can be formed from these sheets.

Catalysts for the polymerization of olefins are disclosed, which comprise the reaction product of: (A) a bridged and/or substituted cyclopentadienyl compound of titanium, zirconium or hafnium; (B) an organometallic aluminum compound of the formula (II): Al(CH.sub.2 --CR.sup.4 R.sup.5 R.sup.6).sub.w R.sup.7.sub.y H.sub.z(II) wherein in the (CH.sub.2 --CR.sup.4 R.sup.5 R.sup.6) groups, which are the same or different, R.sup.4 is an alkyl, alkenyl or arylalkyl group having from 1 to 10 carbon atoms, R.sup.5 is an alkyl, alkenyl, aryl, arylalkyl or alkylaryl group having from 3 to 50 carbon atoms which is different from a straight alkyl or alkenyl group and, optionally, R.sup.4 and R.sup.5 fused together can form a ring having from 4 to 6 carbon atoms, R.sup.6 is hydrogen or an alkyl, alkenyl or arylalkyl group having from 1 to 10 carbon atoms, the R.sup.7 substituents, same or different, are alkyl, alkenyl, aryl, arylalkyl or alkylaryl radicals containing from 1 to 10 carbon atoms and, optionally, can contain Si or Ge atoms, w is 1, 2 or 3, z is 0 or 1, y=3-w-z; and (C) water. The molar ratio aluminum/water is comprised between 1:1 and 100:1. These catalysts show an improved activity with respect to known catalysts wherein an aluminum compound different from those of the above formula is used.

Thermoplastic polymer compositions are disclosed which comprise the following components: (A) 1 to 99% by weight of an amorphous propylene polymer having the following characteristics: �.eta.!>1 dl/g, % of syndiotactic dyads (r)-% of isotactic dyads (m)>0, less than 2% of the CH.sub.2 groups contained in (CH.sub.2).sub.n sequences wherein n.gtoreq.2, Bernoullianity index=1.+-.0.2; and (B) 1 to 99% by weight of a propylene polymer having an essentially syndiotactic structure, optionally containing from 0.1 to 30% by moles of units deriving from .alpha.-olefins of formula CH.sub.2 .dbd.CHR in which R is an hydrogen atom or an alkyl group having from 2 to 10 carbon atoms. The compositions of the invention are endowed with good elasto-mechanical properties and are suitable for the production of low-temperature-heat-sealing films.
