摘要： A multi-purpose tool (10) is used as an air blower capable of delivering a high-velocity stream of air when in a blower mode of operation and as a rotating string trimmer capable of trimming vegetation when in a trimmer mode of operation. The tool has a blower housing (18) including an enclosed chamber (30), a plurality of vents (35) leading to the chamber, and a blower nozzle (32) for directing air from the chamber, wherein the impeller (20) is rotatably mounted in the chamber such that the housing defines an air pathway between the vents and the impeller. The multi-purpose tool also includes means (82) for blocking the flow of air between vents and the impeller when in the trimmer mode of operation and means (99, 124) for disengaging the trimmer head (22) from the internal drive shaft (26) when in the blower mode.

摘要： A combination blower assembly and string trimmer whereby the string trimmer head is easily detachable without the use of any tools. The device includes a blower assembly that further includes an upper and lower housing mated together to form a volute-shaped cavity where an impeller with airfoil-shaped blades reside. The detachable string trimmer head is located under the lower housing of the blower assembly and is easily attached or removed from the blower assembly by a simple push and turn motion. The blower assembly further includes an air inlet and air inlet cover. When the air inlet cover is rotated to a position where the air inlet is open the blower assembly is operable and the string trimmer is inoperable. Furthermore, when the air inlet cover is rotated to a position where the air inlet is closed the blower assembly is inoperable and the string trimmer is operable.

摘要： A compact, lightweight and easy-to-use wheeled lawn care unit comprising a two-wheeled carriage, a power source, plurality of tools which may be alternatively connected to the power source, a handle and a boom connecting the selected tool to the power source. The power source is pivotally connected to the carriage at a location within its footprint. The unit has a low center of gravity by placing the power source pivot and center of gravity within a cylinder defined by the wheels. The boom extends horizontally from the power source and is of a split boom configuration which allows selective rotation for the boom portions relative to one another. An edger can be selected for the unit, which includes a spring-loaded wheel. The edger may be rotated from a non-working position where the edger blade does not contact the ground to a working position by rocking a handle behind the carriage forward against the bias of the spring. A second more compact version has the shield positioned on the boom.

摘要： There is disclosed a technique for modifying a conventional rotary lawn mower to provide the capability of cleaning a paved area such as a sidewalk or driveway. Basically, the only modification to the lawn mower is the provision of a depending skirt extending downwardly from a peripheral wall of the lawn mower frame. Three embodiments are illustrated. The first embodiment comprises a skirt mounted on the lawn mower frame for adjusting movement between an upper or grass cutting position and a lower or sweeping position in which the lower edge of the skirt is spaced only slightly above the bottoms of the lawn mower wheels. The second embodiment comprises a skirt fixed to the lawn mower frame. Adjustment of the skirt to a lower sweeping position is accomplished by the provision of conventional adjustable wheels which effectively lower the lawn mower frame relative to the ground. The third embodiment comprises a skirt which is attached to the lawn mower only when it is desired to perform a sweeping function.

摘要： An attachment is disclosed for converting a rotary type lawnmower to a vacuum cleaner for picking up debris, such as grass cuttings, from sidewalks, driveways, and the like. The attachment includes a baffle member for positioning across the opening in the bottom of the housing of the rotary cutter blade. The baffle member has an opening through which air is pulled by the rotating cutter blade to lift and entrain debris from a sidewalk, driveway, or the like, and carry it into the housing for discharge through the discharge port of the housing. Means are provided for releasably attaching the baffle member to the housing so that the baffle can be attached when it is desired for the mower to act as a vacuum cleaner and removed when the mower is to function in the normal manner.
