Abstract: An interchangeable brush head with ultrasound action makes it possible by way of the thin wall, which has a wall thickness of equal to or less than a millimeter and a low damping coefficient, for the energy to be transmitted as directly as possible by the ultrasonic waves into the effective medium, whereby the otherwise very high losses in the case of such prior-art appliances of the type in question are largely avoided, wherein, at the same time, the safety-related and dental-care aspects and the user-friendliness are increased. Further advantageous measures for increasing the efficiency of transmission are also present. Certain embodiments have only a directly interchangeable insert with the bristles thereon, this being environmentally friendly, user-friendly and cost-saving. In other embodiments, the entire interchangeable brush head, together with the electromechanical transducer installed therein and the neck, has to be replaced.

Abstract: A dental handpiece and a dental cleaning procedure are disclosed. The dental handpiece includes an inner barrel for rotatably retaining an ultrasonic insert, the inner barrel configured for contacting the ultrasonic insert with a cooling fluid in the inner barrel, a coil unit arranged and disposed to apply an alternating magnetic field to the ultrasonic insert when positioned in the inner barrel, an outer sheath extending around at least a portion of the coil unit, and the inner barrel is rotatable relative to at least one of the coil unit and the outer sheath. The dental cleaning procedure includes operating the dental handpiece and autoclaving the dental handpiece, allowing steam to flow through flow regions in the dental handpiece.

Abstract: A method for controlling a dental instrument includes a foot pedal responsive to commands from a user. An operating mode is selectable between normal and boost cycle. A conventional mode is selectable by pressing and holding the foot pedal to a first level to operate in normal mode. The foot pedal operates in a boost mode when the pedal advances to a second level. Maintained mode is selectable by tapping the foot pedal to change modes between idle, normal and boost mode. Each mode is switched by tapping the foot pedal. The pedal switches between the second process and the first process by pressing and holding the foot pedal at the desired level corresponding to normal or boost mode. The pedal switches from the first process to the second process by tapping the foot pedal at the level corresponding to normal or boost.

Abstract: An oral hygiene system for cleaning teeth and gums includes a mouthpiece having at least one arcuate channel adapted to receive and surround the teeth. The mouthpiece includes at least two modalities chosen from a mechanical modality, an iontophoretic modality, and a disinfection modality. The mechanical modality brushes the teeth and gums and dislodges food debris, the iontophoretic modality breaks up plaque and tartar buildup, and the disinfection modality removes the food debris, plaque and tartar buildup. A control system coordinates the transmission of modalities, tracks and records utilization, recording completed and failed treatment cycles, and transmits them to a monitoring system. The monitoring system, which links to electronic medical administrating record (eMAR) technology and patient tracking technology (e.g., RFID sensors, electronic tags), facilitates compliance with recommended oral hygiene regimens and review of compliance by medical staff, assisted living staff, and/or caregivers.
