Abstract:
An apparatus for providing a barrier coating on a portion of discrete objects such as fasteners utilizing a liquid coating material is provided. The present invention introduces either a plurality of loose or interconnected parts onto a magnetized conveyor system and optically senses when parts are present. When parts are sensed, the sensor triggers a discrete shot of liquid coating material such as a fluorocarbon to be deposited onto a predetermined portion of each part. These parts can then be transferred to a second magnetized conveyor system that supports an opposite surface of the parts than the first conveyor. The invention can also remove excess coating material and also be provided with dryers or heaters to fix the coating material to the parts if necessary.
Abstract:
A spraying nozzle of an installation for varnishing hollow bodies from their interiors and especially for varnishing metallic tubes or cans are connected with a spraying nozzle supporting device by a pivotal joint. In the driven out position of the supporting device when the nozzles are out of the hollow bodies, the spraying nozzles can be rotated through an angle and positioned in a tubular clearing device of a purification plant. The article to be sprayed and the spray nozzle are arranged so that the nozzles and the article may be moved relatively to cause the nozzle to enter into the article and move along its interior and spray the article interior as relative movement between the article and the nozzle is carried out and the nozzle and the article, and a cleaning apparatus are arranged so that the nozzle and the article can move relatively for drawing the nozzle out of the article and they can be shifted relatively through an angle and positioned into cooperative engagement with the cleaning apparatus.
Abstract:
An apparatus for applying sealant to a side seam in a container sidewall formed by overlapping portions of the sidewall is provided. The apparatus includes conveying means operable for moving a container into and away from a sealing station. Sensing means is located adjacent the conveying means and is operable for sensing the rotational position of a container sidewall. Drive means is operable for selectively rotating a container to a predetermined rotational position. A sealant dispensing means is positioned adjacent the conveying means at the sealing station and is operable for dispensing sealant onto the seam along substantially the entire length of the seam by a movement of the dispensing means relative to the container. A second sealant dispensing means and station can be provided adjacent the conveying means for applying sealant to a seam between a bottom member and the sidewall of the container.
Abstract:
A powder spray machine for internally coating containers such as metal cans comprising infeed means, container positioning means, powder coating apparatus, container outfeed means, and powder control means. A rotary mask plate is provided with openings for reception of the open ends of cans that are carried by a star wheel adjacent the mask plate and are axially aligned with powder spray means adjacent the other side of the mask plate. Means are provided for controlling the overspray of powder to protect areas of the machine and prevent build-up of powder in any area of the machine, and from entering air outside of the machine. A single plate arrangement supports the container positioning means and thus allows access to the container positioning means for powder control means.
Abstract:
Improved process for applying locking patches of resilient resin to internally threaded articles such as nuts having openings at both ends of the threaded portions in which process there is used apparatus including, a support and treating member, preferably a rotatable, circular table with edge notches complementary to a portion of the exterior of a threaded article to be treated, which receives a succession of threaded articles heated to a temperature above the melting point of the resin to be applied and moves the articles along a path for treatment with the axes of the threaded articles in an up and down position and with the openings at the upper and lower ends of the threaded portions substantially uncovered, conduits on the support and treating member are associated with each threaded article to direct particles of heat fusible resin upwardly through the opening at the lower end of the article against a portion of the threaded surface of the article to form a first deposit of resin on an area of the threaded surface during movement along a first portion of the treatment path and a turning device at an intermediate location on the treatment path turns each threaded article, as it reaches that location, a predetermined angle so that the conduit associated with the article directs resin against a further area of the threaded surface to form a second deposit of resin during movement along a further portion of the treatment path.
Abstract:
A METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR APPLYING A FILM OF WAX TO THE BODY OF A CAN BEFORE THE CAN IS COMPLETELY ASSEMBLED WITH AN END OR ENDS. THE WAX IS APPLIED BY MELTING A 100% SOLIDS WAX AND FORCING IT AS A LIQUID WITHOUT THE ADDITION TO A SOLVENT THROUGH AN AIRLESS SPRAY NOZZLE UNDER CONDITIONS WHICH RESULTS IN A THIN FILM OF 100% SOLIDS WAX BEING APPLIED OVER THE COMPLETE INTERIOR SURFACE OF THE CAN BODY.
