Abstract:
A method and system for generating transmit pulses for use with an electrostatic transducer in harmonic imaging are provided. The excitation waveforms are pre-distorted to account for the non-linear output of the electrostatic transducer. Additionally, the force on a multiple element electrostatic transducer array is measured. A bias voltage is applied to the electrostatic transducer where the bias voltage is responsive to the measured force.
Abstract:
An ultrasound imaging system of the type including a 2D transducer array which has first and second types of transducer elements. Each element of the first type occupies an area of the array which is an integral fraction of the area occupied by each element of the second type. A connection arrangement comprising a plurality of multiplexer/summation circuits is provided for electrically connecting the array elements to the remainder of the ultrasound imaging system. Each multiplexer/summation circuit has a plurality of signal inputs individually connected to a respective plurality of the elements of the first type for selectively combining a given number of the elements of the first type together, the given number being an inverse of the integral fraction. In a preferred embodiment of the invention the 2D array is generally rectangular in shape and has elements arranged into rows along its lateral dimension and columns along its elevational dimension, with a first lateral portion of the array including at least one column of elements of the first type and a second lateral portion of the array including columns of elements of the second type. The multiplexer/summation circuit has signal inputs connected individually to each of the elements of a column of the elements of the first type, for selecting the given number of elements to be combined.
Abstract:
Ultrasonic vibrators, attached to the back of a mirror, are vibrated according to an A.C. signal pattern which is selected from various A.C. signal patterns for the removal of water, frost and/or ice from the surface of the mirror. Further included is a temperature detecting device attached to the back of the mirror for inhibiting operation of the ultrasonic vibrators when the temperature of the mirror exceeds a predetermined temperature, to thus avoid thermally-induced damage to the mirror.
Abstract:
Provided are a method, a device and the like for driving a capacitance transducer that enable reduction of transmission sound pressure variation caused by variation in characteristics of a capacitance transducer used for, e.g., an ultrasound conversion element. A method for driving a capacitance transducer including a plurality of elements each including cells each having a structure in which a vibration membrane including one electrode of a pair of electrodes formed with a cavity therebetween is supported in such a manner that the vibration membrane can vibrate is provided.
Abstract:
An apparatus includes an array of pixels, each pixel including in-cell pixel logic and a piezoelectric micromechanical ultrasonic transducer (PMUT) element, each in-cell pixel logic being communicatively coupled with at least one adjacent pixel in the array. Transceiver electronics may operate the array in a selectable one of a first mode and a second mode. In the first mode, the array may generate a substantially plane ultrasonic wave. In the second mode, the array may generate, from at least one superpixel region, a focused beam of relatively high acoustic pressure, each superpixel region including at least one inner pixel disposed in a central portion of the superpixel region and at least a first group of outer pixels disposed in an outer portion of the superpixel region. The transceiver electronics may be configured to operate the array by configuring at least one in-cell pixel logic.

A transducer includes at least one element including a plurality of cells. Each of the cells includes a pair of electrodes disposed with a gap therebetween and a vibrating membrane including one of the electrodes, and the vibrating membrane is vibratably supported. First and second cells of the plurality of cells in the element have the gaps that communicate with each other, and the first cell and a third cell in the element have the gaps that do not communicate with each other.
Abstract:
The invention related to an ultrasound system comprising: an ultrasound array including at least one capacitive micromachined ultrasonic transducer device comprising a membrane coupled to a first electrode, a substrate opposing the membrane with a gas or vacuum cavity there between and coupled to a second and a third electrodes, wherein the second electrode opposes the first electrode in a peripheral region and the third electrode opposes the first electrode in a central region; at least one drive circuit coupled to the array. The system further comprises a high impedance resistor, which electrically couples to the second electrode and the third electrode and has an impedance value higher than an AC impedance between the first and the second electrodes, when the membrane of the CMUT device is in the collapsed state and the CMUT devices is activated at operating frequency.
