Abstract:
A feed roll comprises a roll having a rotary axis, flutes fixed on the roll, mounts fixed on the roll between the flutes, each mount having a seat spaced apart from the outer surface of the roll and replaceable flute elements detachably and matingly engaged in the seats of respective mounts and extending outward beyond the mounts. The replaceable flute insert element comprises an elongated plate body having an inner longitudinal edge, an outer longitudinal edge, and a backing face extending between the inner longitudinal edge and the outer longitudinal edge and the inner longitudinal edge and the backing face configured to matingly engage the seat of the mount. The flute insert element further comprises the outer longitudinal edge being formed with a traction element and the plate body having a plurality of bolt holes therethrough for registering with the bolt holes of the mount element when the plate body and the seat are matingly engaged.
Abstract:
A butt flare reducing apparatus for logs is provided. The apparatus includes a machine frame, a stator ring assembly fixedly coupled to the machine frame, and a flare reducing tool adjustment assembly movably coupled to the stator ring assembly. The apparatus further includes an actuator coupled on one end to the machine frame and on the other end to the flare reducing tool adjustment assembly to move the flare reducing tool adjustment assembly between the opposing end positions, and a rotor assembly rotatably coupled to the stator ring assembly. The rotor assembly includes a rotor frame and at least one flare reducing tool movably coupled to the rotor frame to translate linearly toward and away from a longitudinal axis of rotation in direct correlation to movement of the actuator and flare reducing tool adjustment assembly to adjust a log processing diameter. Related methods are also provided.
Abstract:
A method and system for detecting and controlling the quality of debarking at the surface of a wooden log provide information on main parameters related to the debarking quality of the log surface, including fiber loss and residual bark. The debarking quality detecting method and system involve measurement of three-dimensional profile of at least a portion of the log surface to generate corresponding profile image data, which is processed to generate data indicative of the texture of the log surface. The texture data is then analyzed to generate resulting data on the debarking quality parameters. That quality indicative information can be generated on a continuous basis to provide an objective assessment of the quality performance in real-time in view of target productivity, and may then be used to perform optimal adjustments of the debarker operating parameters, either manually by the operator or automatically through feedback control.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a self-propelling branch remover with the aid of which relatively large branches on trees, but even whole trees, can be gripped and capped. For this purpose, either so-called felling saws have previously been used, which were attached to the front end of a hydraulic crane and gripped the trunk with claws and sawed it off using a pivotable capping saw. The other solution was that of a worker who was lifted in a lifting basket up to the relevant place and carried out the work there manually using a saw. In both cases, the sawn-off parts dropped down in an uncontrolled manner since even the felling saws did indeed hold the piece tight, but could not hold it in the original position since they could not be used to transmit a torque to the crane arm. The attachment was effected by means of two universal joints. In the present case, this is prevented in that a connection between the felling saw unit and the machine frame is selected, which can absorb both bending forces and torques. For this purpose, the felling saw unit is attached so as to be rotatable and pivotable in a controlled manner relative to a torsion-resistant, jointless telescopic crane arm such that the entire work can be carried out by remote control from the driver's cab of the self-propelling branch remover. This avoids complex cordoning-off and safeguarding work.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a method and apparatus for removing bark balls from a log flow traveling on a conveyor (3) which extends from a debarking drum (1) to a chipper (2), said conveyor (3) including a roller assembly (4) provided with an opening (5) for dumping from the conveyor (3) a sub-flow consisting of wood pieces and bark balls. The apparatus comprises an adjustable dispenser device (6) for further dividing the sub-flow falling from the conveyor (3) into a portion including mainly wood pieces and a portion including mainly bark balls.
Abstract:
A combination log debarking, log chipping unit having a debarking apparatus and a chipping apparatus mounted on a common chassis, the two apparatus are aligned for conveying logs from the debarking apparatus to the chipping apparatus. The two apparatus are separated by a space of about 6-10 feet to permit loose bark to be removed from the logs and thereby avoid bark contamination of the chip. A conveyor system between the two apparatus guides and conveys logs to the chipper. A single power source enables control over the feeding of the logs to synchronize log feeding with the chipper's chipping capability. A loader over the debarking apparatus provides convenient loading of the logs into the debarker. The power source and controls for the various operating components are all under the common control of the loader operator.
