Abstract: Embodiments provide systems, methods and apparatuses for positioning boards and other wood pieces in preparation for sawing/trimming. In embodiments, a continuous track loop conveys board stops slideably mounted to board stop guides positioned perpendicular to the direction of flow. A horizontal frame member provides a series of positioning guides through which a cam follower coupled to a board stop is diverted, thus adjusting the position of board stops in a direction perpendicular to the direction of flow without the use of braking devices or other added sources of mass, friction or vibration.

Abstract: A system for lineally transporting logs, lugs therefore, and an associated method are provided. The system includes first and second tracks connected to a frame to provide continuous track surfaces. Lugs having support surfaces that correspond to the track surfaces are configured to be driven longitudinally along the tracks by a continuous conveyor belt.

Abstract: A package or palletized load comprises a lower section of elongated articles which are disposed in a side-by-side abutting array and are upended so as to be supported upon one of the longitudinally extending side surfaces thereof. Additional elongated articles, disposed in an array comprising multiple rows and columns and forming an upper section of the package or palletized load, are then stacked atop the lower section of the package or palletized load. Due to the fact that the articles comprising the lower section of the package or palletized load are relatively inflexible along their transverse extents, the elongated articles disposed within the upper section of the package or palletized load will be properly supported so as not to be adversely affected by means of gravitational forces to which the multiplicity of elongated articles will be subjected during shipping, handling, transportation, and storage.

Abstract: A virtual lug loader includes a lug loader for loading workpieces in a flow direction into the spaced apart lugs on a lugged conveyor, wherein the workpieces are transversely oriented relative to the flow direction. The lug loader includes an array of pairs of endless conveyors for conveying the workpieces downstream, wherein each pair of endless conveyors in the array include first and second endless conveyors. The first and second endless conveyors are spaced laterally apart across the flow direction. Each are aligned substantially in the flow direction. The array forms a continuous upper surface in the flow direction for supporting the workpieces translating downstream in the flow direction. Each pair of endless conveyors in the array overlap adjacent pairs of endless conveyors in the array. At least one pair of endless conveyors in the array include independently actuable first and second drives independently driving their corresponding first and second endless conveyors.

Abstract: The system and a method are for lengthwise positioning of transversally-oriented elongated articles as they are being longitudinally conveyed, the system and method comprising sliding a laterally extending end of the elongated article against a fence oriented in a converging angle relative to the conveyor, to thereby displace the elongated article lengthwisely. The fence is comprised of a plurality of adjacent gates which can be individually moved out of interference with the elongated article once the elongated article has been lengthwisely displaced to the desired transversal position. The fence can be provided as a fence assembly having the plurality of gates mounted to a common base, and having a plurality of actuators each connected between the base and a respective gate for moving the gate.
