    摘要: A low-cost, fluidized-bed drying process for the production of solidified alkaline earth salts is provided which is especially useful for the production of MgCl.sub.2.6H.sub.2 O from a starting brine nominally containing MgCl.sub.2.12H.sub.2 O. The process includes the steps of passing the starting brine into a drying chamber (12) and fluidizing the brine by contact with hot air for a period of from about 1-15 minutes while heating the brine to a maximum temperature of from about 200.degree.-275.degree. F. This creates a molten salt product, which can then be cooled using ambient air to yield the desired final product. Preferably, the brine is heated to a temperature of from about 230.degree.-250.degree. F., and is subjected to fluidizing contact with hot air for about 5-8 minutes. Ambient air cooling is accomplished by contacting the intermediate melt with ambient air for a period of from about 10 seconds to 3 minutes.

    摘要: The invention relates to the innovative formulation of mixtures of nitrate salts, the composition of which is fundamentally based on strontium nitrate and other alkaline metal nitrates. These salts, according to the invention, produce an eutectic mixture with a meting point lower than 210° C., in a ternary formulation and the decomposition thereof occurring at a temperature greater than 00° C. In addition, other non-eutectic compositions are provided for the purpose of adapting their melting point to the different applications if considered necessary. Furthermore, this ternary formulation is more competitive than the existing formulations from an economic point of view. This formulation of salts has a direct application as a heat storage fluid, as well as a vehicle for heat transfer, being suitable for heat accumulation and transmission systems in thermosolar centres, as well as in any other application requiring temporary storage of thermal energy and the subsequent transfer thereof. The main provision of this invention is a fluid that can maintain its liquid state for a more prolonged period and at a temperature lower than the existing formulations, without the need to provide external heat and ensuring the stability of same at more elevated temperatures.

    摘要: The present invention provides an apparatus and rapid methods for extracting strontium ions from urine to provide a concentrated and purified strontium-90 extract suitable for scintillation measurements. The methods remove organic compounds, pigments, and alkali metal ions that can interfere with quantitative determination of strontium-90 in urine. A method of the invention comprises acidifying urine and removing organic pigments therefrom, loading a known quantity of so-treated urine onto a diphosphonic acid-based ion-exchange resin; flowing aqueous methanesulfonic acid through the diphosphonic acid-based ion-exchange resin to elute alkali metal ions therefrom; eluting strontium ions off of the diphosphonic acid-based resin and on to a strontium extraction chromatographic resin with a concentrated aqueous nitric acid solution; subsequently flowing water or a dilute acid stripping solution through the strontium extraction resin to strip the strontium from the strontium extraction resin; and collecting the strontium-containing stripping solution eluting from the strontium extraction resin.

    摘要: The present invention relates to a method for purifying calcium nitrate melt or solution separated from the mixture obtained by dissolution of rock phosphate with nitric acid. The melt contains fluorine and phosphorus as main contaminants. The mol-ratio phosphorus/fluorine in the crude calcium nitrate melt/solution is adjusted to 3.5>P/f>0.3, possibly by extra addition of a phosphorus compound, and the mixture is then neutralized by ammonia to pH=5-6. The precipitate thereby formed is removed while the filtrate, which is a purified nitrate of lime melt, is evaporated and further processed. The purification can be carried out in two stages, with a P/F-ratio in the first stage of 0.3-3 and 1-3.5 in the second stage. Phosphoric acid or a phosphoric acid containing solution is used as phosphorus compound.

    摘要: A malleable or press-forgeable ingot of barium fluoride, for use as an optical body, may be grown from an ultra-pure precipitate of barium fluoride which contains less than 10 parts per million (ppm) of strontium or calcium. A process is disclosed for crystallizing barium nitrate crystals in the presence of nitric acid, reacting barium nitrate with ammonium carbonate to form barium carbonate, recovering barium carbonate crystals, suspending the barium carbonate crystals in water and precipitating barium fluoride with hydrofluoric acid. The barium fluoride crystals are recovered, dried and then calcined in the presence of ammonium fluoride or bifluoride. Barium fluoride (BaF.sub.2) crystals obtained by the process of this invention contain less than 10 ppm of each strontium and calcium.Crystals of an alkaline earth metal fluoride which have been calcined in the presence of a fluoride of ammonium are unexpectedly densified, and are particularly suited for melt-growth of an ingot in a known manner. A maximum concentration of 10 ppm of strontium and calcium in a BaF.sub.2 ingot has been found to be the critical demarcation between a frangible prior art BaF.sub.2 ingot and an ingot of BaF.sub.2 which does not unpredictably shatter when cut, and, which may be reliably press-forged into an optical body.
