Photodefineable cyclobutarene compositions are disclosed. These polymer compositions are useful in composites, laminates, membranes, films, adhesives, coatings, and electronic applications such as multichip modules and printed circuit boards. An example of such photodefineable cyclobutarene compositions is a mixture of a photosensitive agent such as 2,6-bis(4-azidobenzylidene)-4-methylcyclohexanone and a cyclobutarene such as oligomeric divinyltetramethyldisiloxane bisbenzocyclobutane.

This invention relates to a novel process for preparing vinylsilane-BCBs (vinylsilane-benzocyclobutenes) comprising reacting a hydrosilating reagent with an acetylene-BCB in the presence of a catalyst.The invention also relates to a novel mixture of isomers of DVS-bisBCB (1,3-divinyl-1,1,3,3-tetramethyldisiloxane bisbenzocyclobutene) as well as novel partially or fully cured polymers derived from the vinylsilane BCBs.

An optical matching oil that is immune to timewise variations in its refractive index, that undergoes little increase in viscosity below room temperature, and that also resists crystallization below room temperature. The optical matching oil is based on an organosilicon compound with the following general formula ##STR1## wherein R is selected from the group consisting of methyl, vinyl, and 2-methylphenethyl with the proviso that at least one R group is the 2-methylphenethyl group.

Products of the formula (wherein X represents a halogen atom) may be subsequently hydrolysed to give disiloxanes of the formula The latter may be further copolymerized with siloxanes introducing units of the formula R 111 n SiO 4-n/2 , in which R 111 is a hydrocarbon radical or halohydrocarbon radical, and n is 0 to 3. The invention comprises siloxanes of formulae (1) {[(CH3)3SiO]3SiO}SiCl; (2) {[(CH3)3SiO]3SiO}SiCH3; (3) {[(CH3)3SiO]3SiO}2Si(CH3)Cl; and (4) {[(CH3)3SiO]3SiO}2Si(CH3)(OH). (1) is prepared by reacting SiCl4 and [(CH3)3SiO]3SiOH in the presence of a hydrogen-chloride acceptor; (2) and (3) are prepared by reacting CH3SiCl3 and [(CH3)3SiO]3 SiOH, in the presence of a hydrogen-chloride acceptor; (4) is prepared by the hydrolysis of (3). Uses.-In waxes and polishes, forming protective films on glass and metals, fluid springs, hydraulic fluids and lubricants.
