    Abstract: According to some embodiments, sewer alarm devices and apparatus are provided for detecting the presence of liquid within a pipe. In some embodiments, the devices and apparatus include a housing including a top portion and a bottom portion, and a probe housing, extending from the bottom portion of the housing to a bottom surface area of the probe housing and sized to fit within an interior of a wye connector, the wye connector having an interior extending into an interior of the pipe. At least a first probe is disposed within the probe housing and exposed to an area between the bottom surface area of the probe housing and the interior of the pipe.

    Abstract: A monitoring and alert methodology ascertains conditions that may result in a combined sewer overflow (CSO) event. The method employs a semantic model of a combined sewer system that includes specification information describing the components of the combined sewer system. Sensors distributed throughout the components of the combined sewer system sense operating parameter information for those components. A monitoring and alerting (MA) information handling system (IHS) receives operating parameter information from the sensors. The MA IHS analyzes the operating parameter information received from the sensors together with the specification information in the semantic model of the combined sewer system to determine if a combined sewer overflow (CSO) event is possible. The MA IHS generates an alert to provide notification of a possible CSO event if the MA IHS determines that a CSO event is possible. In this manner, an operator may take early corrective action before a CSO event occurs.

    Abstract: This invention prevents blockage that occurs in the general drainage traps of buildings. The invention consists in connecting a conduit by positioning it in the inlet part above the trap water float level (M) and in the outlet part below a line (N) thereby forming a new auxiliary trap. The invention is suitable for use in traps in buildings which are connected to the common sewage system. The invention informs and thereby prevents the obstruction of the trap by the use of an alarm which is installed in the conduit wherein the water is diverted due to gravity when the conduit is obstructed and signals any obstruction in the conduit so that it can be cleared without waiting for the consequences of such a situation to occur. Also although water flows freely through the auxiliary trap section air does not freely communicate between the inlet and outlet pipes and foul odors are avoided.

    Abstract: A sewer relief valve assembly comprises a cylindrical sleeve dimensioned for insertion into a clean out which has an interior surface formed as a conduit and exterior threads adapted for mated engagement with the interior threads of the clean out. A valve means is disposed in the cylindrical sleeve which is displaceable from a closed position to an open position by pressurized fluid in the clean out. At least one perforated compartment is disposed inside the cylindrical sleeve which contains a water-soluble disinfectant composition. The valve means is displaceable by fluid pressure to the open position permitting discharge of the effluent through the clean out and the simultaneous release of the water-soluble disinfectant composition from the perforated compartment into the effluent. A water-soluble dye composition can also be included in the perforated compartment so that sewage overflow from the clean out is readily visible.

    Abstract: An electronically operated sewer backup alarm apparatus can be placed in a new or existing sewer line connecting a residence, or other facility generating sewage, to a sewage collection system. The alarm apparatus includes a connection element for connection into the sewer line, an electrical apparatus controlling the closing of the back-water valve, a flapper attached in a water tight relationship to the seat of the back-water valve. The flapper also has an "O" ring for sealing the flapper to the seat of the back-water valve, whereby backed up sewage in the sewer pipe is prevented from entering into the residence or other type facility. The backup alarm system also includes first and second electrical conductors extending into the interior of the connection element for electrically contacting backed-up sewage to produce reduced electrical resistance between the first and second conductors. An alarm circuit generates an alarm signal in response to a reduced resistance to actuate an audible buzzer.

    Abstract: A drain overflow alarm for a washing machine drain, which alarm is mounted in a vertical drain line offset provided with a check valve and extending from the vertical fixed drain line or standpipe of a structure. In a preferred embodiment the alarm includes a float switch located in the top end of the drain line offset and a transformer, relay, alarm and optical reset button, all provided in a control housing. The float switch is electrically connected to the transformer, relay and alarm, such that obstruction of the fixed drain line causes water to rise in the fixed drain line and through the check valve into the drain line offset. The rising water raises the float element of the float switch and closes the switch to activate the transformer relay and alarm, as well as terminate operation of the washing machine. Clearing of the drain line allows water to flow from the drain line and drain line offset, which causes the float element to drop, and manipulation of the optional reset button facilitates resumption of operation of the washing machine. Alternatively, current to the washing machine may be automatically restored when the float switch is opened, without the necessity of using a reset button.
