A monitoring and alert methodology ascertains conditions that may result in a combined sewer overflow (CSO) event. The method employs a semantic model of a combined sewer system that includes specification information describing the components of the combined sewer system. Sensors distributed throughout the components of the combined sewer system sense operating parameter information for those components. A monitoring and alerting (MA) information handling system (IHS) receives operating parameter information from the sensors. The MA IHS analyzes the operating parameter information received from the sensors together with the specification information in the semantic model of the combined sewer system to determine if a combined sewer overflow (CSO) event is possible. The MA IHS generates an alert to provide notification of a possible CSO event if the MA IHS determines that a CSO event is possible. In this manner, an operator may take early corrective action before a CSO event occurs.

An electrical power generating system is connected to a sewer for conveying waste water to a sanitary treatment station. Waste water is propelled through the sewer line by pumping equipment which simultaneously pulverizes most large objects carried by the waste water. The waste water drives one or more water-operated turbines. The turbines are operatively connected to electrical power generators for producing electrical power and dispersing the power through an electrical power transmission system.

This invention provides a modular ducting section and a networked utilities ducting system and rain and road water management system formed from two or more modular ducting sections laying end-to-end. Each modular ducting section comprises open-topped utility channels for carrying utility service supply lines such as electricity, gas, water, or communications, an open-topped catchment channel for carrying rain water captured from a building structure or garden, and a supply channel for supplying an end user with utility services via a supply line, while also allowing the end user to feed an end-user generated utility supply back into the corresponding utility service supply line via a return line. Each modular ducting section further comprises a road water runoff flange and a main channel cover, which when combined, form a curb-side structure that functions to keep any contaminated road water from the reusable rain water collected in the catchment channel.

A flow limiting inlet structure is designed to collect water or other fluids in a pool above grade, and to provide improved capture of sediments and surface pollutants such as oils and greases in the pool, while regulating the flow of water or other fluids during discharge into an outlet pipe. In a conventional storm water detention basin a vertical cylindrical discharge structure can be used to regulate the basin water depth and discharge flow rate of storm water out of the detention basin, in conjunction with the use of a specially designed baffle system that prevents the release of any greases or oils floating on the water surface while capturing any floating trash or debris.

A method and apparatus for providing water from a lake, pond, or other body of water, relatively silt and sediment free. A water inlet is positioned off the bottom of the body of water and is adjustably supported from the bottom of the body of water. The inlet is maintained above the silt and sediment layer at the bottom of the body of water and below the surface layer of the body of water.

A method for producing cylindrical hollow bodies bearing on the ground along one generatrice, of large cross sectional area, by assembling on site previously prepared longitudinal components.The method consists in determining by calculation the optimum cross-sectional profile of said hollow body as a function of known parameters concerning the site, conditions of use of said hollow body and its inherent characteristics; divising said optimum cross-sectional profile into adjacent sections each corresponding to a longitudinal component of the hollow body and together providing a substantially continuous interior surface; and giving the transverse wall section of at least some of said components a variable thickness for adapting the latter component to the stresses to be exerted thereon.

An apparatus and method is provided for repairing an underground structure such as a pipe or manhole. The apparatus includes a liner assembly made of resin absorbent material. Some embodiments may further include a bladder assembly to help position the liner and press the liner against the walls of the underground structure. A sealing member is positioned in the underground structure. In some embodiments the sealing member is a separate member made from a compressible material, an absorbent material, or a hydrophilic or hydrophobic material. In other embodiments the sealing member is a portion of the liner assembly. The sealing member includes one or more channels adapted to receive a semi-liquid such as a hydrophilic or hydrophobic paste or grout. The semi-liquid is capable of swelling in response to being exposed to another liquid, such as water, and forms a seal between the liner assembly and the host pipe/manhole.
