Embodiments of the invention provide a starter comprising a motor comprising a drive shaft, a pinion, and a clutch. In some embodiments, the starter includes a planetary gear coupled with the clutch. Some embodiments include a pinion speed sensor assembly configured and arranged to provide a signal related to the rotational speed of the pinion based upon a speed of a component of the starter that is coupled to the pinion. Some embodiments of the starter include a pinion rotational speed sensor located within the drive-end region of the starter, and configured and arranged for direct or indirect monitoring of the pinion. Some embodiments include a sensor that is configured and arranged to monitor one or more components of the clutch assembly, the drive-shaft, the pinion, the output shaft, or a planetary gear. The speed sensor can be a magnetic-field flux sensor assembly or an optical sensor assembly.

A rotary electric starter machine including an electric motor, a housing surrounding the motor, and a pinion connected to the motor, at least one of the motor and the housing comprising a magnetically active portion of the machine, wherein the magnetically active motor portion is made of an enhanced performance steel material having a flux density at a given magnetizing force level that is at least about 20% less than the flux density at the given magnetic force level of a conventional low carbon steel material chosen from the group consisting of AISI 1008 and AISI 1010 steel.

A method and device for controlling a shiftable planetary gear set in a belt drive of an internal combustion engine in a motor vehicle having a sun gear which is fixedly connected to a belt pulley, a ring gear which can be connected fixedly with respect to the housing by means of a brake which is activated by an electrically operated actuator which is effective along a distance which is monitored by a relative distance sensor, as well as a web which is connected to a crankshaft of the internal combustion engine and rotatably accommodates planetary gears, wherein situated between the sun gear and the web is a free wheeling mechanism which can be switched and rolled over in both directions and is switched by the same actuator along the travel distance.

An engine starter mechanism using a one way clutch includes a starter motor; a ring gear for receiving a driving force from the starter motor; the one way clutch including an outer race, an inner race disposed away from the outer race in a radially inner direction and relatively rotatably disposed concentrically with the outer race, and a torque transmitting section disposed between the outer race and the inner race to transmit a torque; and an oil seal for sealing the one way clutch, the ring gear is connected to the outer race of the one way clutch, and the oil seal is held between the ring gear and the outer race.

The present model describes the technical field of parts for the automobile sector, more specifically a device applied in the starter unit that constantly works geared to the main engine. The new model presents a start-up unit that works with a drive gear constantly engaged to the gear train of the main engine; a torque transmission system and free wheel (2) with rollers (5C) and cam (5A2); and a rubber damping system (8) to avoid damages to the start-up system when the combustion engine turns off due to kickback that is a characteristic present in all combustion and explosion engines.

A clutch includes an outer clutch member, an inner clutch member, and a plurality of roller members. The outer clutch member defines an opening, and the inner clutch member is at least partially positioned within the opening. The inner clutch member includes a clutch surface. The plurality of roller members is at least partially positioned within the opening between the clutch surface and the outer clutch member. The roller members define a plurality of roller surfaces separated by at least one annular groove. Each of the roller members is displaceable within the opening to position the roller surfaces into engagement with the clutch surface to lock the inner clutch member into synchronous movement with the outer clutch member in response to movement of the inner clutch member in a rotational direction.

A starter includes a motor, a speed reducer, a pinion that transmits the drive torque of the motor to an engine ring gear, a partition wall that separates between the motor and the speed reducer, a pinion driving solenoid that pushes out the pinion to the ring gear side, and a motor energizing switch that opens and closes an electric point of contact. The starter is able to control independently operation of the pinion drive solenoid and operation of the motor energizing switch, the starter further includes a rotation detector disposed in a motor side inner space separated by the partition wall.

Embodiments of the invention provide a starter machine comprising a housing. A motor can be positioned within the housing and coupled to a gear train, which can be coupled to a shaft. A switched reluctance solenoid assembly can be positioned within the housing and capable of being coupled to inverters that communicate with an electronic control unit. The switched reluctance solenoid assembly includes at least two switched reluctance stator assemblies and a rotor that is coupled to the shaft. The rotor can also include an integral pinion and is movably positioned within the switched reluctance stator assemblies. The rotor is capable of linear and rotational movement.
