    摘要: A de-agglomerator is provided for use with a breath-actuated dry powder inhaler for breaking up aggregates and micronizing particles of dry powder prior to inhalation of the powder by a patient using the inhaler. The de-agglomerator includes an inner wall defining a swirl chamber extending along an axis from a first end to a second end, a dry powder supply port, an inlet port, and an outlet port. The supply port is in the first end of the swirl chamber for providing fluid communication between a dry powder delivery passageway of an inhaler and the first end of the swirl chamber. The inlet port is in the inner wall of the swirl chamber adjacent to the first end of the swirl chamber and provides fluid communication between a region exterior to the de-agglomerator and the swirl chamber. The outlet port provides fluid communication between the second end of the swirl chamber and a region exterior to the de-agglomerator, whereby a breath induced low pressure at the outlet port causes air flows into the swirl chamber through the dry powder supply port and the inlet port. The air flows collide with each other and with the wall of the swirl chamber prior to exiting through the outlet port, such that any powder entrained in the air flows is broken down and micronized. The de-agglomerator further includes vanes at the first end of the swirl chamber for creating additional collisions and impacts of entrained powder.

    摘要: A dose counter for a metered dose inhaler comprises actuator means (341), drive means (350) for driving a rotary gear (360) in step-wise fashion in response to displacement of said actuator means (341), said rotary gear (360) comprising a wheel having a plurality of ratchet teeth (not shown) around its periphery. Means (364) are provided to prevent reverse rotation of the rotary gear (360). A flexible tape (368) is provided with a visible array of incrementing integers on its surface indicating the number of medicament doses remaining in the inhaler. The tape (368) indexes by a single integer in response to each step of the step-wise rotary motion of the rotary gear (360). A control surface (371) regulates the position of engagement and disengagement between the drive means (350) and the rotary gear (360). In an alternative embodiment (FIG. 6), the control surface (371) is omitted and the means for preventing reverse rotation comprise a stepless restraint (664).

    摘要: A dose indicating device constructed for use with an inhalator is disclosed. The inhalator contains multiple doses of a medicament and has an operational portion that includes a dosing unit defining an inhalation channel, and a maneuvering element. The maneuvering element loads a dose of the medicament to the dosing unit and provides the dose in a position in the inhalation channel for inhalation. The dose indicating device includes: a body constructed to be mounted on the maneuvering element of the inhalator; a first element constructed to be mounted on and around an outer wall surface of the maneuvering element; a second element rotatably mounted on and around the outer surface of the first element for rotation relative to the first element; corresponding portions provided on the first and second elements constructed to engage when the inhalator is activated for inhalation in a manner to limit relative movement between the first and second elements; and an indicator constructed to detect movement of the maneuvering element and indicate to a user of the inhalator that a dose has been fed to the inhalation channel when the inhalator is activated for inhalation.
