摘要: Polycrystalline diamond includes a working surface and a peripheral surface extending around an outer periphery of the working surface. The polycrystalline diamond includes a first volume including an interstitial material and a second volume having a leached region that includes boron and titanium. A method of fabricating a polycrystalline diamond element includes positioning a first volume of diamond particles adjacent to a substrate, the first volume of diamond particles including a material that includes a group 13 element, and positioning a second volume of diamond particles adjacent to the first volume of diamond particles such that the first volume of diamond particles is disposed between the second volume of diamond particles and the substrate, the second volume of diamond particles having a lower concentration of material including the group 13 element than the first volume of diamond particles. Various other articles, assemblies, and methods are also disclosed.

摘要: Abrasive articles, along with related compositions and methods, are provided. The abrasive articles include a backing, abrasive layer, and supersize coat that includes calcium stearate and an ammonium salt of a modified styrene acrylic polymer. The supersize coat can be dried to a translucent film at temperatures well below the melting temperature of the binder without need for a surfactant. Advantageously, these abrasive articles can reduce swarf accumulation during an abrading operation and enhance cut performance while achieving a high degree of optical clarity.

摘要: A method for dry production of a sliding layer on a flexible backing, in particular a backing that includes a textile or an abrasive backing, includes at least the following. A binder, or more particularly an adhesive such as a hot-applied adhesive or a hotmelt, is applied to a flexible backing. The binder is applied in dry form, such as via scattering, and is joined to the backing via exposure to heat to form a sliding layer on the backing and to hold the sliding layer at least one of on and in the backing. A lubricant, or more particularly a lubricant that includes graphite or PTFE, is applied to at least one of the backing and the binder.

The alternating layers or strata in the first region comprise first layers or strata alternating with second layers or strata, the first layers or strata being in a state of residual compressive stress and the second layers or strata being in a state of residual tensile stress.

摘要: Methods for manufacturing bonded abrasive articles, for example vitrified bonded grinding wheels. A bondable abrasive composition is prepared including abrasive particles, a binder medium and a gamma-pyrone pore inducing material, such as ethyl maltol. A precursor abrasive structure is formed from the composition. The gamma-pyrone pore inducing material is removed from the precursor abrasive structure to provide a porous precursor abrasive structure that is further processed to provide a bonded abrasive article. In some embodiments, the binder medium includes a vitreous bonding material, and the bonded abrasive article is a porous vitrified bonded grinding wheel.
